Have you ever planned your life around a pearl jam tour???

I am a preschool teacher and come June, I will be out of a job. I have been looking for jobs in my area (california) and am hesitant to take a "serious committed position" because of pj's new tour. 10c said something about west coast early fall, so I do not want to take a job and then ask for time off after a few months. I've been looking at temp adminstration type jobs. I want to catch as many shows as I financially can...i figure I''ll work, then quit when the tour hits. Then worry about getting a real job after the tour. I hope I am making the right decision...I am 30 years old and entirely planning my life around pearl jam right now...

I'm a teacher as well, and if I've got so much sick/personal time built up, if I could afford to go to a show or two, then I just ask off for it. That being said, it seems like pretty much everyone here is going to at least one of the two or even both of the Chicago shows in August. Of course it falls on the day before and the day of the first day of school- two days that I can not ask off for. Probably the only time of the year - the first week of school - that I can't ask off for- but it's cool- I'm too broke to go anyway  Hell, I'm too damn broke to even go up to see Ed in Atlanta when school's out!!!!! But that's life.

Anyway, what I'm getting at, if you get offered a job, take it! There is a current hiring freeze for all teachers in the state of Florida. I feel very lucky to have job security.

In 2006 my wife and I booked our wedding for the 18th of November as we had seen what looked to be the Oz tour dates and wanted to follow the tour for our honeymoon. Then the first show was actually on the 7th so we tried to move the wedding forward by 2 weeks to the 4th but could only manage to get the 11th. We missed the first 4 shows of the leg but managed the remaining 8... best 2 weeks of my life, and definitely a prime example of planning ones life around the band.

if nothing is everything i would have it all

I usually plan work around shows. That way I can get work to pay for my travel..

Honestly I love the band, but a job is more important. If something comes up, take it. There are always shows on the weekends.

If you get offered a job in this crappy economy you'd be crazy to turn it down.

I feel fortunate to have a job right now and even better that I have a large amount of vacation and personal time and the ability to take off virtually any weeks that I want. I have put aside some of my time off in hopes of catching a few Pearl Jam/eV shows. :)

My wife and I got married September 3, 2005 and then followed PJ from Edmonton on the 5th to Thunder Bay on the 9th for our honeymoon. Eddie signed a towel for us and Mike traded us t-shirts! It was too much to handle.... :D

I too have planned my summer around PJ and Eddie. I'm in VA right now and stying through the 3rd wk of June so I could see EV. Then I'm flying to Chicago for PJ and incorporating our winter business into it. I'm lucky to be self employed. There have also been years when I had to work and just couldn't make it.

I would say be true to what your priorities are in life? What are your goals and purposes? If you can afford it....Sometimes you just have to say WTF?

Some of the very best moments of my life have been at PJ shows....

I am thankful and fortunate to get 36 days of vacation a year and it's sick to say but I save all but a couple of days every year until I know what the tour schedule is and then I have a vacation blow out. I don't make plans until they do. It's just wrong. Some people like to fish, some like to lay on the beach, and some like to take the kids to Disney. I like to tour! :D
    (PS: I have no kids)

I think a better question for me would be: Have you ever NOT planned your life around a Pearl Jam tour???

Although I think all of the other comments about taking a job wise and well intended.........I kinda of look at it a little differently. Your 30..with NOTHING stopping you from having the TIME OF YOUR LIFE for 2-3 months.

I SAY GO FOR IT..........cause as life goes by, things happen, children are born, mortgages are due, life just goes...............DO IT!

    I'll see ya there!!!!
How I choose to feel......is how I am.

I earn over 5 weeks of time off each year, but I'm only allowed to take 2 of the weeks during the summer (Memorial through Labor Day). Every year, I never put in for my time until the VERY last minute (which is before May), in case new PJ tour info pops up. So now that I have my vacation weeks established for THIS summer, I have my fingers crossed very tight that the "west coast shows" fall after the week of Labor Day, so I can take more time off & fly out to Cali. Hope I don't get sick later in the year- my vacation time & sick time all comes from the same earned-time bank.

I've seen ppl work & save up money, then quit & spend every dime to follow the tour for 30+ shows, then find another job for 6 more months until the next tour, then quit & hit the road again, & the cycle continues... that would never work for me, I need to maintain a little more reality in my life. But what you're thinking about doing sounds pretty middle-of-the-road to me. I mean, you'll be jobless for a while anyway, & if you ARE working by then, at least it's a job you won't be settled into for too long. I guess it all depends on the "crunch" of the profession in your area. Either way, have fun :!:
