I would encourage anyone to visit our beautiful country.....

Politics, society, damn it´s so fucking sad. I don´t remember where I read this but the next quote is so fucking true: "every nation has the leaders they deserve". At least it fits perfectly in my country. And a lot more countries also!

Guatemala asks for UN probe into lawyer's killing

'GUATEMALA CITY – A slain lawyer's videotaped and posthumously broadcast accusation that President Alvaro Colom ordered his murder threw Guatemala into an uproar Tuesday and prompted the government to call for a U.N. agency and the FBI to investigate the killing.

Colom vehemently denied the allegations made in a videotape left by lawyer Rodrigo Rosenberg, who was shot to death by unidentified assailants while riding his bicycle Sunday. But opposition lawmakers called for the president to step aside while the killing is investigated...'

The United Fruit Company.....what a legacy.
All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a thousand enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed.

I don't think you deserve those politicians at all. Its hard to compete with a superpower -true for any country. for a country like guatemala its any wonder they (you) have any decency left.

"Amnesty International later stated that Guatemalan sources,
including the Committee of the Relatives of Disappeared Persons,
claimed that over 7,000 persons disappeared or were found dead in
these two years [70's] "Foreign diplomats in Guatemala City," reported
Le Monde in 1971, "believe that for every political
assassination by left-wing revolutionaries fifteen murders are
    committed by right-wing fanatics."{27}"

    -from Bill Blum.

they were fighting for independence, from a superpower. that struggle continues to this day.

A lot of those who were fighting for that independence did not have a clue what they were fighting for. So many were recluted ultimately by lefties in suits. Don´t get lost here, with left vs right, good vs evil crap.

At the end, people have always been used by either of the supergroups. There has been great leaders here. Many who had to leave the country, or have been murdered.

These so called lefties, intelectuals because they are, signed "la firma de la paz" (the signature for peace) and were granted money and/or land. Some of them joined with righties. The last vicepresident was one of them. So everyone who was fighting for that so called independence, some who gave their lives, lost families, were just "pawns in THEIR games". I feel sorry for their loss, our country´s loss, but I don´t respect what they did. That´s my own opinion. I have friends that totally disagree w/me. Bottom line is I don´t believe in any motherfucker. The last elections was a circus. Everywhere I heard people say that we had to choose the least worst candidate! I voted blank between the final 2 candidates.

There were good candidates. But none who were supported by the superpowers. At the end the one financed by criminal organizations won, under the term "fight against poverty" / "the poor´s candidate" / lefty candidate. By the way this colom guy is a nephew of one of the great leaders we had that was shot and killed. His own family did not support him and publicly rejected him as a legacy of his late uncle for the elections.

fighting with a siganture like "la firma de la paz" seems a bit hypocritical to me, i agree.

you have an interesting perspective, i can' t blame you, you're living it.

But I really doubt lack of US involvement in your election. The US has too much invested in keeping the entire continent down to allow something as simple as an election change any of that. And judging from the fact you had 2 douchebags to choose from (sounds familiar by the way) leads me to believe the US had a hand in there somewhere. If only in setting up a system that cannot be changed with a ballot. and they probably funded one or the other in someway. One year the US spent more on a candidate in Nicaragua than both them the dems and republicans spent combined in the US. No candidate in the world could even compete with that.

And we have no way of knowing. Its all black ops support. And the US black ops budget is larger than Britains actual military budget, to give you an idea of how much money they have at their disposal.

Its all about resources. Guatemala's resources should benefit the people of Guatemala, not international corporations, as it is now.
