2003 Porch- my kinda Porch

mike is ripping his guitar to shred and stone is sustaining these notes- playing these spacey, few note progressions that just cut right into your soul. jeff and matt give them just enough space to be able to pull it off...its just perfect. in my humble opinion, PNC is the epitome of the 2003 porch- flawless execution, but every porch from the 03 tour is better than any porch that has come since.

has there ever been a better year for porch than 2003?

I think the early ones are the most legendary. The one on DITP is pretty awesome. They used to jam that shit, and still do, but they cut a few minutes off the old versions.

Early porch. By far, early porch. Any of them.

I'd say it's the change in the drumming that throws the whole song off for me...

early porch is cool but people give it too much credit because ed used to climb on shit. climbing on shit is cool and all, but it doesn't do much for the music.

the only reason i take 03 porch over early porch is because of stone. i love the spacey solos. i love when he riffs out, but mike solos over stone riffing out all the time. 03 porch totally highlights the contrast in their styles.

early porch is like mike playing over stone, stone is basically part of the rythym section....03 porch is different, like they are both doing their own thing over jeff and matt.

I disagree 112%. I've listened to dozens of boots from the early 90's... IN the early 90's. Before youtube... before video was convenient. When Jack came to the band, I was bummed with their performance of many songs. This was not because I had seen video of Ed climbing. I didn't even know Ed climbed, since I was only listening to audio boots.

Musically, the 90's were the best Porch. Now, Matt just plays way too dry, and I think that makes for a relatively boring Porch. Not bad... but some people love hearing the words of songs, I loved hearing the drumming, and it being different and uninspired makes me not want to listen to it.

Any version of Porch from the early years just slays. All of the guys had so much intensity.

    Eddie's stage presence was amazing.

I cannot agree more. This show was my first PJ concert so I was only into the "hits" back then, and didnt realize the magic of this version. I have listened to this version hundreds of times and i can say that this version is my favorite PJ song everrr. I sometimes wish that I can travel back in time to re-live this one song.

My favorite version was from the Borgata on Sep 30, 2005... It was the second song in the first set, after Long Road.. They started it with the blues jam kind of intro, and when they kicked into it, the place exploded..
I'm gone ..Long gone..This time I'm letting go of it all...So long...Cause this time I'm gone

This is a great version, probably my favorite. Helps that I was about 10 feet from stage for it. Atlanta 94 is amazing, as well as Unplugged. One of my favorites is from the Fan club show in 1995. Itwas at the Moore theater I think?
