I thought it was awesome.
I'm still waiting to see this. If it's anywhere as good as The Proposition then I know I'll like it.0 -

(dang ... 25 years ... I'm getting old! )
yeah ... love this movie ... definitely a classic ... i just recently showed it to a pair of 7 year olds ... and they loved it too ...
that buttercup still looks great!0 -
Saw Trouble With The Curve. I was hesitant about this movie, but it was pleasantly good. Clint Eastwood was Clint Eastwood
Amy Adams and Justin Timberlake were good (albeit kinda predictable). The plot and story were pretty decent as well.

Saw Seven Psychopaths today and laughed my ass off. What a great cast and unique story. Martin McDonagh and Jeff Nichols are probably the 2 best young directors around today.

I've been wanting to see "Lockout" since it came out. The commercials looked like it was a pretty decent Sci-Fi/Action flick, and kind of funny. And that's what I got, except for the kind of funny part, as Guy Pearce was nothing short of VERY funny. It's sort of like "Escape From New York", "The Rock", "The Fifth Element" (Luc Besson co-wrote the movie) and "The Minority" report all had a baby, maybe thrown in a little "Memento" (and not just because of Guy) and some comedy, and that's "Lockout".
Basically the story is that the First Daughter (who appears to be an aspiring doctor) goes to an orbiting prison, where all the prisoners are kept in sleep/stasis, as part of a fact finding mission to investigate long term affects of the stasis. While she's there a prisoner escapes, gets a gun, and releases all the prisoners. Guy Pearce's character, a spy who was framed in the opening minutes of the movie and is being sent to the prison, is then tapped to rescue the First Daughter.
The only thing that really got me about this movie, and I know you have to suspend disbelief when watching a movie of this kind, is the lack of security at this space prison. I've been in county jails here on present day Earth that have MUCH tighter security than this orbiting "Maximum Secutiy" prison, and that's without a visit from the First Daughter to make it all the more tight. The entire film, and all the deaths within, could have been avoided by simply frisking a man. Don't take his word for it that he has no weapons.
Also, the special effects weren't that consistent. I'm not a big special effects guy though, so even if they were all sub-par I wouldn't be that disappointed, but when they look really bad it is distracting. Sometimes the effects were terrible (like in a motorcycle chase near the beginning) and other times they were flawless. I'm assuming they blew their entire budget on some of the scenes and had to scrounge together money to finish the rest. I just don't understand how they could create a giant space battle with fighters and a giant space station, and make it look flawless, and the same crew can't create a believable motorcycle chase taking place on Earth.
All in all, not the greatest movie, but it is fun and funny. And pretty tense as well. Definitely a good rent if you're into this sort of movie. Or even if you're not but you like Guy Pearce, definitely rent it. He makes the movie, and even some of the worst reviews I have read still make it a point to praise him, even if they go on to shit on the movie itself."See a broad to get dat booty yak 'em, leg 'er down, a smack 'em yak 'em!"0 -

over here, I saw "Dark Shadows" over the weekend.. loved it.0 -
Looper: 6.5/10 - not what I expected which was good, but missing pieces to elevate film
7 Psychopaths: 6.5/10 - some really good scenes/writing mixed in with cliches and substandard filmmaking
Argo: 7/10 - argofuckyourself ... hollywoodized a bit too much for my liking but overall, well done ...0 -

saw a couple over the weekend
Cloud Atlas: 7.5/10 - this film has gotten a decent score from rottentomatoes and is arguably been a bomb at the box office. Although there are some elements that did not work for me - the overall film was quite ambitious in my mind and executed pretty good. There are similar themes in this movie like other Wachowskis films such as corruption, corporate hegemony, choice, etc... Those themes do play well to my sensibilities but aside from that - there is a beautiful arc to this film. Even tho we jump from one story/period of time to another - you don't get too lost because of this arc. I am going to say this film is not for everyone ... heck, it is only probably for a few of you. I think it will speak to those few - for the rest of ya, I would say you're not gonna like it at all.
Man With The Iron Fists: 1.5/10 - as a beloved fan of this genre, it was so disappointing to not only watch this film but also come to the realization that it could have actually been made and released. I don't know who this RZA guy is but really - there is no way in hell he should have been allowed to make this movie. Awful is listening to Britney Spears do opera - this is worse.0 -
Few movies I def. Want to see:
-Skyfall not a huge Bond fan, but enjoyed the last two, esp. Casino Royale. Also hearing great things about this one.
-Flight also heard good things and it's Denzel.
-Cloud Atlas i'll probably use my free Regal movie card for this one. Hearing mixed reviews and 3 hours is pretty damn long for a movie.8/28/98- Camden, NJ

I saw saw Wreck It Ralph yesterday with my two oldest sons. We all enjoyed it a lot, good story, good animation.
Before we went we were debating between that and the new James Bond movie, so when we were walking out to the car I said "that had to be the strangest James Bond movie I've ever seen..."0
