    fire started on tuesday, they thought it was rather benign, approximately 200 acres. then on wednesday it was 100 degrees (previous record temp was 85) and we had 50mph winds, which basically acted like a flamethrower.

    i never thought it would jump the hwy 154 (four lane highway) but it did last night, so now goleta and monteciot are in trouble.

    latest estimates are the fire has consumed 3,500 acres.

    this is a post on facebook from a friend of mine who is a firefighter who has been in santa barbara the last 2 days

    had an amazing shift, fought fire ALL night, saved all 4 homes we worked on. 1 structure has burns coming from all 4 sides, & the house is fully intact & beautiful :-D OES281 kicks ass!

    ahhhh....it's awful. I'm 1.5 hours south of SB and the air is awful...i can't imagine being in the middle of something so erratic and fierce. I hope things get under control soon...
    Need a tour Travel Agent??? Pick me :-)

    My aunt and uncle live there in a house up in the hills. I keep wondering if the fire has come near them yet. :shock:
