Power for Pedals

Hi,

I am constantly spending money on batteries for my pedals and someone suggested I buy a mains adapter and daisy chain instead. Sounded like a great idea! However, when I went along to Denmark Street to buy these, the guy asked me what pedals I have and what adapter they require. I didn't realise you can't just use one adapter for various makes of pedal. I thought there would just be a standard 9V one that would work with all of them. He showed me a Boss one, and said it would work with most makes but I didn't want to take the risk and end up wasting money. When I got home I looked on the back of my Ibanez Delay and it says to only use various Ibanez adapters, 'to prevent damage' but I also have DanElectro and Boss pedals, and presumably they would say to only use their models.

So my question is, does anyone know how you are supposed to power your pedals from the mains if they are all different makes?!

Thank you for any help you can give.

Ibanez, Boss, and Danelectro all use the universal "Boss-style" power plug, so you would be fine using any of the Boss-type power supplies. The Boss TU-2 tuner can supply power to other pedals via daisy-chain, and there are any number of plain daisy-chain power supplies (Godlyke, 1Spot, etc). There are also regulated and conditioned power supplies that cost a LOT more, but can clean up the overall sound of your pedalboard by providing good, clean power to each pedal. I use the Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 2, and it cut almost all the noise from my rig. If you just want to stop buying batteries, though, get the daisy-chain and save yourself the hassle.
...and if you don't like it, you can suck on an egg.

I suggest 1-spot. I had 4, at one time, supplying about 16 pedals. The only ones thy don't work with are the Fulltones. Otherwise, you're good. I've powered Boos, Ibanez, Danelectros, Digitechs, Dunlops, and DODs with them.

Did u have a fulltone soulbender? if so - that takes a positive 9v adapter, not negative.

    Other fulltones should work.

Negative. I used my buddy's '69 Fulltone. I used the battery because the owner said it didn't work with whatever he had. I do know that my 1-spot daisy automatically changes polarities with each individual input (or so it seems because I've used pedals with separate polarities in the same chain).

Hmmm, odd. Anyway, 1-spots are what I use. I know a few others that use the power brick, too. I think that's by VooDoo Lab
