How broke must one be to sell your PJ valuables??

So I just spent $150 out of my emergency fund to go to this concert (you know, money set aside for.. emergencies.. :) ) -- Dave Ramsey would kill me!! -- and am feeling kind of guilty about it. And I tried to alleviate the pain by looking for items to sell on Ebay, but nothing I have is worth anything, other than some of my PJ collectibles. Man, I get teary eyed and start hyperventilating just thinking about selling them. But... the money!

Has anyone parted with their PJ valuables and been glad? Has anyone parted with their valuables and really regretted it afterwards? Are there those of you out there who think I'm stupid just for thinking about it???

I guess the fact I still get angry I sold a Ten picture disc many years or so ago for $30 should tell me all I need to know, but I just thought I'd get some fresh perspectives. :) How broke must one be to sell your PJ valuables???

  • they're just things...i've sold some stuff from my collection...no big deal to me. to me, it's more about the people, the travel, the music and the overall experience.
If nothing is everything, I'll have it all
  • Once you have accepted the fact that you are selling your items, it should be easier...

Or, consider that you are merely trading some tangible items for a life-long wonderful memory that can never be lost, damaged or stolen...now that's REAL value! ;)

And have fun at the EV solo show...your life is made of memories & your house is full of stuff

I would have no problem at all selling 95% of my stuff if I needed money.

You can ALWAYS get it back. Well almost always, but that 5% of stuff that is personalized, or 1 of a kind should not be parted with.

You can find that picture disk for $15.00 if you look hard enough and $20.00 all over the place.

So no loss. That should tell you all you need to know about replacing stuff.

Well, I think it's the thought that I'd be paying a lot more to get them again in the future than I did to get them in the first place (I'm talking LPs). But you're right.. it's just stuff!

My friend was going to see Eddie last night. Since he was in Vegas, I gave him 5 Grand to gamble with. I told him I wanted it all to go on Black. Bastard! PhillyCrownOfThorns-11-2-12

Memories are better than stuff, no matter what the stuff is. I'm thinning out my collection too. The things you own end up owning you so give em away if you've got too much or like in this instance, sell em on to people that want them. I hate it all, just sits here & I don't really care for it. The real treasure's in your head.

Really? I still enjoy going through my collection to this day, some 17+ years later. memories dont do it for me aside from shows and the folks I have met. I dig my "STUFF"....Just me I guess..As I said.cant imagine getting rid of anything no matter how small.

If it would significantly contribute to a down payment on a house i might consider getting rid of my stuff

What if something serious happened and you had to make the call?

It goes without saying that if there was a NEED to, then yes, I would def not be dumb enough not to part with some of it.

I was referring to the OP post about dipping into the emergency fund for a concert. Or selling it because it was just stuff or just in the way. I would NEVER sell it to buy a tv or a new furniture or a new car or someTHING else I wanted is what I am saying. I was merely making the point that it is more than STUFF to me. It is something that I charish. It makes me happy and is a huge part of my life to this day. Unlike some folks who are over it or dont want/need them any longer, I am not. It would be the last thing to go if I ever decided I didnt need STUFF. Of course if I was in dire straights I would. I am not that big of a douche! ;-)

I recently sold a bunch of bootleg CDs. I had transferred most of the tracks to my iTunes library, so it's not like I don't own the music. And I made a big chunk of cash.

  • Per the original post - so I ended up parting with a few things. My emergency fund before I bought PJ tickets (and when I say emergency fund, may I also mention that I have tons of debt, so it's not like I'm sitting pretty!) was 500, and is now 350. It made me think -- well crap, if something happens to my car, I'm screwed! That $150 could make or break me for a car repair! So, I put up *just* a few things to make up this concert ticket caused deficit that I created, and to alleviate the guilt for not sticking to my budget.

It's not like I regret getting the tickets. I am getting reimbursed for half of the other ticket (that was the deal I made with my friend to come to this expensive show in this expensive city with me) and I was thinking about the first time ever I saw PJ in the United Center in 1998 and it made me super excited. Not to mention these shows are one of the main reasons I have been so diligent in keeping up my Ten Club membership since I was 11, and believe me, that's something hard to keep up through middle school, high school, college, the poor post-college barista years, etc.

My boyfriend pointed it out to me "So wait, you are selling your Pearl Jam records.. to see Pearl Jam in concert?" But you know what? People are right, it's just stuff.

I may change my tune in a year or so. :)

  • I paid over $500 for sealed Benny Hall, had it for about 9 months and sold it for a Supreme edition darth vader costume. Wore it to 2 halloween parties and then re-sold it. Took the money from the costume plus alittle more and re-bought another sealed Benny Hall. Debated selling it for a stormtrooper costume, but haven't made up my mind. its tough selling off PJ/ Vedder, but in a crisis I would have to do it!

I sold my Hawaii 98 and the klausen DTE print a few years ago to fund a cross country trip.
To this day I still hate that I did that.
