basically all i need to know is what the average ticket price was for PJ back in '98-'99 and comparing them to the prices for PJ now (or i guess last summer)

also if you can add some other artists you went to see back in '98 '99 and compare them to now...

basically my theory is that (aside from other factors) illegal downloading has cause the rise in ticket prices...

the reason i said around '98 '99 is cause that is when Napster was first launched...

EDIT: note i need face value...i'm disregarding TM sevrice fees and price jacking from scalpers

That "aside from other factors" makes me laugh a little bit. I'm not trying to be cynical here, but is what you're trying to say that if one ignores every other relevant variable, illegal downloading has caused the rise in ticket prices? I guess that's true, but I'd say it's pretty low down on the list. I say this because royalties are known to be quite miniscule in comparison to the money that's there to be made through concerts. Essentially, unless album sales are astronomical, and a superb record deal has been worked out, my understanding was that, for a musician, an album is essentially a way to get people to come see your shows. Illegal downloading actually makes bands more accessible to more people, I would think, and would actually cause... actually, I'd like to change my stance halfway through here... the illegal downloading would increase the number of fans, which would increase the demand for concert tickets, and the band, thus, would raise the prices of the tickets, as is necessary to keep tickets in the hands of true fans and move them away from scalpers.
PS, I wrote this almost train-of-thought, my opinion changed halfway through.. amazing what weed can do.

actually it does make a large difference...more teens these days are illegally downloading practically all their music content. and if they are paying for it, they are only buying songs at a time. and all of this sharing reduces more record sales. it's hurting record companies badly. some are even adding that they get a percentage of ticket sales in their contracts. that only makes face value tickets even higher...
