Coast to Coast, he’s driving like a ghost. Roads winding like a snake, empty coffee

cups beside him, inability to stay awake. Darkness swallows his truck as the tires roll along the street. Heart pounding in a rhythm, about to miss a beat. Exit signs passing him like warnings on the right. The moon flaming overhead, beginning to affect his sight. Diesel fueled engines rumble alongside. To his wife, he thirsts to swallow that “lie”. It’s been hours since he’s had a new thought. It’s been years for that life that he’s sought. Liquid sunshine beginning to drop on his windshield. Puddles of despair accumulating in the “field”. Lightning crashes up ahead in his sights, eyes watering from all the electrical lights. His children crying, lying awake in their bed. Visions of terror, becoming slaves in their head. A car swerves like a worm in the grass. Gasping for air, he becomes desperate to pass. Intoxicated driver sits in his throne like a king.
Praying to God, to appease him of his “sin”. He looks at the man with eyes like a demon. The pupils are shining and no longer dreaming. His hands like cement as their clutching the wheel. His existence, this villain is longing to steal. In a flash, the beast disappears in the witching hour. Fire erupts like vengeance in it’s tower. The driver moves on, looking up through the glass. A skull lies motionless, resting in the grass. He presses on the pedal, the motor beginning to wail. The devil in the distance, remains on his trail. Not a car up ahead for miles up ahead. Behind him, his vision sees nothing but “red”.
