ok all you box set owners do you preserve your vinyl records of ten/redux/drop in the park, or do you play them, i know playing vinyl more and more wears them out over time but it just sounds so much better to me than the cd's i can't play the cd's much at all, lol

Seeing that I don't own a record player, mine stays in very good condition. However, I'll play them once I get a record player one of these years.

Those LP's didn't come sealed so it's not a big deal to slip them out of the sleeve and play them.

    Thats why i bought two.
one sealed up and put away.

  • I don't own a Record Player, so all my viynl stays in pretty good condition and pretty much ALWAYS stays in the box, unless i decide to whip them out to look at them.

I played the records two times and they sound brilliant. It's definitely a highlight.
I hope they will put a vinyl wth one of their previous concerts into each of the forthcoming boxes :D:D

Not sure vinyl wears down over time. My father has a record collection that is 40-50 years old and he always played records when I was growing up. He recently gave me a few that I was interested in and they sound great. Clearly remember them being played hundreds of times growing up, not to mention before I was born. As long as they don't get scratched up, the records should outlast you.
He who forgets will be destined to remember.

As long as you keep a fresh needle on your player you will be ok.. Worn needles are what ruin records.. The more you play a record with a worn needle, the more damage you will do to your record. I replace mine every six months.. Around $75-$100 dollars to replace it.. If you don't play records daily or even every weekend then you can probably get a year out of one.. Just changed mine the week I bought a Beny on ebay.. Not taking any chances with that beauty! ;) just a little turntable 101 for ya'll!!

All of my vinyl has been opened and played. I think it is a waste of money to buy them if your not going to play them.

    +1
(had a player, lost it in one of my 800 moves over the last 15 yrs or so... it was probably more like "wtf do I still have this for?"...oops, audio ignorance.)... I'll get another one some day. I don't have a good home theater/speaker setup either, another 'someday' goal.
  • they were made for the intention of being played and enjoyed, no point in buying it just so it can gather dust

I played them.. but the amount of time I get at home to play records is minimal. So they don't get played often, so they don't wear out too fast.

I listen to most of music walk back and forth to work which is via mp3 unfortunately. So when I get some time spin the black circle, its a nice respit from that :)

I played all of them. As I do with all my vinyl records.

I've said it b4 and I'll say it again. People can do whatever they want with THEIR vinyl. Who cares if they decide to not play them and keep them sealed.

It also depends on the condition of the stylus.
Seeing I bought my turntable second hand I don't play it often until I get a new stylus, just incase the current one has been worn out.
Old blunt stylus's will cut the groove on your vinyl wider, a new one should not wear the vinyl out.

You're 100% correct. However, some people (myself included) would love to have a copy of some of the rarer LPs to spin the f*** out of.
I totally appreciate the fact that some people like to collect certain items and maintain their unsealed condition, but what if I enjoyed buying 10C tix and not using them? That sounds totally ridiculous but it's no one's business what I choose to do with my own property. Would you support that? Who is anyone to say what another does with their property?
That being said, it just sucks for the person that wants that item and would love nothing more than to take advantage of its intended use.
