Thats was really good, definately matt cameron like. Were you following everything he was doing or improvising?

Im a huge Matt fan, I think hes PJ's best drummer. I dunno about you but thats my opinion. I totally agree with what you said about him. You should cover the LOTL version of Given To Fly. I love how matt played that song back in 98-00. (he plays it pretty terribly now though) Theres this one fill he does in the middle of the song that I always remember. It sounds amazing.

Technically, I definitely agree that he's their best drummer. However, I don't think he enhances PJ the way some other drummers have.. I think Jack Irons did the best job for the band, personally. Matt is too jazzy - too precise, not powerful enough.

wow, that just comes down to matter of opinion i guess. to say Matt is too precise is funny to me. and In fact he is very powerful on the drums. And he did transform the songs since 1998 in a way that I dont think anyone else could. But hey I've always loved jacks playing and recently watched a cool video of Eleven on some tv show playing live and it kicks buttox.

My own personal take on Matt Cameron.... he is very very good. But I struggle to think of drum parts he has written with this band that are as distinct as, say, Jesus Christ Pose. I absolutely loved him in Soundgarden.... In Pearl Jam, I feel like Dave A. had a little more of a unique style. Songs like WMA and Go stand out to me as being centered around a killer drum groove... there ARE Matt songs like this, but...

All that being said, he has kept the band together for ten years now... he helped kick the band off, by playing on the MAMASAN demos... he has contributed some great songs (You Are) and has contributed back-up vox live, which really help out... we all owe Matt Cameron, big time.

    THANK YOU MATT!!!!!!!!!

I believe that Dave A had the right combination of wet and dry when it came to cymbals (except too many splashes), better mix of tight and loose on the hi-hats, and way better timing on the songs like on blood or solat. Matt's playing on the early stuff is so uninspired. I'd rather hear Matt's later PJ songs pretty much exclusively at a show, rather than him butcher so much of the early catalog. Jack and Matt are the reasons PJ continued on, so we HAVE to give them the credit of the longevity of the band - and on their own material, proper credit on the writing of. The rest of PJ altered their sound to suit their drummers, which works on the drummer's own material, but not so much when drummers are playing other drummers materials (with very few exceptions).

So we don't hijack dreamweaver's thread about his playing to Matt's playing, maybe the "matt vs dave" topic should be brought back to this thread below. My comments are here starting 5th post down, responding to dreamweaver's comment in the 4th post:

I dunno, watching that just proves how amazing Matt is. (even though its not him playing) He plays songs in such a unique way. And that fucking snare man. Bring that shit back.
