    Yeah, that guy's a goof.

    Binaural is amazing.

Perhaps the guy asking the initial question/comment got No Code mixed up with Binural? No Code is the album that many look at as "killing the fanbase". (not that I agree).

Anyways, let's hammer Sports guys inbox til he begs for mercy!

  • I think No Code whittled down the fan base more then Binaural but there were still a lot of people who bought Yield. I think Binaural is the reason why on 700,000 bought the Avocado.

Not one of my casual fan friends liked that album when it came out.

No, Riot Act is the reason why only 700,000 bought Avocado.
Hail, hail the lucky ones, I refer to those in love.

Fair enough but I will argue that both of those albums were factors. If you read a lot of The Sports Guy's stuff you will know that he hated Binaural and Riot Act but liked all other albums.

He said after the new one came out it was good to know PJ had there fastball.

I agree with him to be honest.

Um ... did I miss something? Simmons did say anything about Binaural or Pearl Jam at all. It was a question from a reader that brought it up.

Guys please don't flood his mailbox just because he has an opinion. He is an avid Pearl Jam fan and doesn't have to love everything the band does. If you flood his mailbox you just make pearl jam fans look psycho (which many of you are)

i sort of agree with him...i never listen to the studio version of binaural but i love those songs live
  • well people forget last kiss was out than so either way they were still popular.

God forbid someone have an opinion...

I'm a huge PJ fan... fan club member for 13 years... and guess what? I think Binaural and Riot Act are their weakest overall albums. I still think they're good, but do you honestly fucking think that anyone who is a casual fan (read: not the crazy psychos we see around these parts :D) is going to dig those 2 records?

Some of you guys gotta settle down.

how many times must I state that Bill Simmons is shitty?

    18-1
  • He has already had to mention before how psycho PJ fans are. He mentions PJ at least twice a year. I happen to LOVE Binaural, but I know what he meant.

I always cringe when 2 worlds collide. I knew some people would advocate being losers and emailing him for his own musical taste not matching theirs.

He's a funny, well written sports guy with some different takes. He is not a music critic for the Times.
    9/7/98, 8/3/00, 9/4/00, 4/15/03, 7/1/03, 9/28/04, 9/29/04, 5/24/06, 5/25/06, 6/17/08, 6/22/08, 6/28/08, 6/30/08, 5/17/10, 10/15/13, 10/16/13.
  • lmao "one of the greatest comebacks in sports history". What a disillusioned state one must be in after eating so much food....or by making a living writing about it.

He's also written about how he goes to PJ shows when they come to his area and wrote a column entitled State of NBA, love and trust about the 2006 NBA playoffs in which he uses 25 Pearl Jam quotes to describe his NBA post season predictions:

    http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/060421

So before we jump on him for having an opinion, remember he's a fan too. Not every fan loves every album or is a diehard who posts on the message board.

It's pointless to flood the writer's mailbox anyway, because he's not the one who said it.
