“I feel like there were a couple of things that I would maybe change,” Vedder said, referring to his own band, “but I’m not ashamed.” (http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2009/04/30/eddie-vedder-recalls-birth-of-pearl-jam-in-grunge-oral-history/)

Really? Not exactly a ringing endorsement of his life's work, is it? ;)

To be honest about the concept of the book though... Hasn't this been done to death already. Read Clark Humphrey's book Loser. It covers the exact ground that this review purports the new book to cover. Exact. I'm not saying Loser isn't without its errors, but the template is already there in great detail. Or how about the "Ten Past Ten" article from Spin (http://www.fivehorizons.com/archive/articles/spin801.shtml? That probably contains more band specific information than an other publication that could come out. (assuming people are just interested in reading about PJ instead of the whole affair)

I have this book and am reading it now...I think it's great...I had no idea that Duff McKagan was so involved in the scene in the early days...and the early descriptions of places like the Showbox are fun to read about...

I wasn't aware of Loser, so I can't offer any comparison...

It's an awesome book, especially reading from Layne's Mom about that period when they lost him metaphorically and then physically. Definitely a great read with some awesome pics I hadnt see before.
