Is this too militant a move for workers in other countries?

Enraged About Corporate Greed? Kidnap Your Boss
The French have taken to bossnapping -- "sequestering" their bosses while keeping them comfortable and safe -- to protest economic unfairness.

Here's a story from a month ago about one of the 'sequestrations':
http://www.mailonsunday.co.uk/news/worl ... rkers.html
‘The director is in no danger. All we are asking is that our demands for fairer pay and conditions are met.’
A local police spokesman said: ‘We are aware of the situation. A judicial representative is attending along with our officers.’

Wonder how this would be handled in other parts of the world...?

they know how to make a point in europe.

I think its a good way to make a point. as long as the boss inst' hurt in any way, which it sounds like they are treating them well.

they have 6 weeks paid vacation, insurance that will cover unemployment for 2 years, decent wages, full health care, etc etc etc...

all earned with things like this. strikes protests...

If we tried that in the US they'd probably send in the SWAT team, lay down kidnapping charges and prosecute to the full extent of the law. if we survived at all. meanwhile we're stuck with no health care and no vacation and on down the line.

Are you saying it is ok to kidnap someone as long as you are nice to them about it?

If they already have all that shit, what more could they need to protest about? Is 6 weeks vacation not enough and they need 8?

I think the interesting thing about the way they’re going about this is that it’s WORKING. In the one story, the workers being laid off were having their jobs outsourced…after using this tactic, they saved their jobs…which, to me, PROVES that the company was simply fucking their workers to save a buck…

Another thing to consider in this is the thoughts of the boss being ‘held captive’. It’s very possible that these workers know their bosses quite well, and the bosses aren’t exactly putting up a huge fight…if the decision is coming from above the captive bosses’ head to lay people off, and he doesn’t really want to do it…who says he isn’t saying, ‘ya, I’ll hang out in my office overnight and you guys can do your thing negotiating with head office’ (only rudely, and in French ;) )….it’s not like there has been any violence, and the bosses may be sympathetic to their workers’ plight. I have to admit, I snickered a bit, and got some sick satisfaction from the pic on the second link I posted….little boss man with his lunch tray, locked in his tower…

Commy’s point is what frustrates me the most…the French, reviled by many in the West (and in the media) for their socialist tendencies, and their refusal to ALWAYS tow the western line, seem to have much more humane ways of dealing with these situations…AND a much more worker-friendly environment.

Although not living in France one my best friends has being living in England for the last three years and doubts if he could ever could come back to North America and instead of six he gets eight weeks of holidays. But that is obviously not his biggest reason for staying.

I cannot believe an earlier poster would say isn't six enough....damn I could not disagree more. My friend thinks that they have the right things going in Europe and he was, how would you say, not the most liberal person in the world, a moderate to say. But he insists that over there is a great way to operate...but who cares right? Countries in Europe are only always ranked highest in non important factors such as happiness, health care, education, etc. These rights have been gained by not bowing down, but having the odd protest to state the people have the power and good on them.

We are so mis-informed about everything over here it is mind-blowing and dis-heartening.

in the class war, all things are equal..

if my manager has a right to make me stay a few hours after work on some project, its my right to do the same to him.

and nothings given, these "rights" are all taken.

If they already have all that shit, what more could they need to protest about? Is 6 weeks vacation not enough and they need 8?
The class war doesn't take breaks. its a constant struggle.

They understand that very well in Europe, France especially.

As companies grow, and gain more profit, workers should see gains in paychecks and benefits, right? There is no company to run if the workers don't show up to work.

That almost never happens. The only way we see any piece of the profits is if we demand it, through strikes and kidnapping our bosses and things like that.

In the US its really sad actually, just how far behind we are. And this is the country where Exxon made $36 billion in straight profit.

We don't even have mandatory health care or vacation time or things like that. They are "perks" here, mandatory there. That's why its necessary to stand up to the elite.

In Europe this kind of situation wouldn't last long.

instead of profit its the bailout. workers should get a piece of that too. otherwise it will all get kicked back to friends of friends in the loop and the rest of us can go to hell with our grocery bills. that's what happened in the US. AIG was a funnel. They kicked that money out to the elite, with no accountability. In Europe they are trying to prevent that, because they are not as behind as we are, when it comes to the class war.

    workers run the world.
