American idol gets a bit of Broadway revisited this week. ITW
reports, "Even before Adam Lambert was a front-runner on American
Idol, he was thought to have super-heroic singing powers and casting
director Bernard Telsey says that Adam was on his short list to play
Spider-Man in the Broadway musical Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark,
featuring music by U2 front man Bono."
"We cast him in Wicked and just knew he had that sort of range,”
explains Bernard. But here’s where the web of intrigue gets sticky:
Adam says being a potential Peter Parker is news to him! “I just heard
about that, too,” Adam tells In Touch.
“Not to create controversy — I know the casting director and he
might’ve mentioned something in passing — but I don’t think it was an
offer.” So would Adam be interested in putting on Spidey’s tights at
some point? “Possibly. I am a huge Bono and [director] Julie Taymor
fan, so it would be a huge honor,” he says.
“But I’m kind of busy at the moment!” The Spider-Man musical also
features music by U2’s The Edge, and will debut in 2010. “He’d be
great,” says Bernard. “Let him win [Idol], then he can replace Spider-
Man a year after the run.”
