If so:

If the following fighters met in their prime, who would win out of

(a) Jack Johnson (1908) and Rocky Marciano (1953)

(b) George Foreman (1973) and Mike Tyson (1988)

(c) Muhammad Ali (1967) and anyone else?

    My predictions:

    (a) Jack Johnson's defensive skills and sheer strength would prove too much for Marciano. Johnson was a late starter, as often was Marciano, but Marciano in spite of his relentlessness would be tired from Johnson tying him up and blocking his left hooks. Johnson would get Marciano by a late stoppage or knockout. Johnson was scientifically far superior to later boxers such as Dempsey, Tunney or even Louis. You'd need someone of Ali's speed or Foreman's sheer power to crush him in his prime. A speed/power combo man (with neither Ali's speed nor Foreman's power) such as Tyson would be flustered by an impeccable defense.

    (b) Tyson was made for Foreman. Tyson would come out blazing, Foreman would push him back, set him up with a strong jab, and start throwing bombs. Unlike Marciano or Frazier, when Tyson went down from a big punch, he stayed down.

    (c) Ali in 1967 was invincible.

I think Little Mac (1987) could give Ali (1967) a run for his money. Not only did he beat down on Tyson, he had to take on the Super Macho Man and King Hippo too!

    (a) Rocky Marciano (1953)

    (b) George Foreman (1973)
Happiness is only real when shared
  • Johnson: This would probably be a slightly boring fight for a while, but still amazing to watch

Foreman: Just too big and strong defensively. Like you said, just wait out tyson for the first few rounds, then start wearing down on him

Ali: Yeah, maybe someone having the fight of a lifetime would have a shot, but overall I'd have to say nobody

On a related topic, who do you guys like in the Pacquiao - Hatton fight coming up? Overall Pacquiao's definitely the better fighter, but Hatton has a lot of heart, and some power to back it up. This is the first fight in a while where I've actually liked both fighters. Not really sure who I want to win this one, but should be an interesting fight

    A) Rocky wins with heart..

    B) Tyson catches Foreman with a one punch KO..

    C) Ali and Holyfield (1991) would be interesting..

Ali in his prime vs Tyson in his prime would be a dream match for me. Before Tyson went to prison, I had never seen a boxer with such strength in my lifetime....still haven't.

He had the opportunity to be the best ever, but instead chose to rape women and eat children..

Not sure if Tyson was tall enough to catch young Foreman. Foreman was trained by Archie Moore, the expert in crossarm defence. Foreman would meet a fighter coming in with the crossarm/ push out combo. He was too strong for Tyson's style. Tyson wasn't a roper-doper and needed to rush into the centre of the ring to deliver. Otherwise he was relying on uppercuts off the ropes. Foreman pre-Ali would pick him off where he came in, and Tyson going backwards was an awkward sight. I don't think Foreman would give him time to settle on the ropes anyway.

I really dont follow boxing that much but I will always remember when Lennox Lewis fought Mike Tyson and Lewis came out and Crazy bald heads by Bob Marley was playing and then Tyson came out playing some gangsta rap shit I think it was DMX,but any way I just thought it was so cool how Lewis was all mellow and then proceeded to punish Tyson's ass :D

Yeah but, Tyson in his prime... he was a rabid pit bull. He punished his opponents. You could see fear in their eyes. I don't think he could have been brought down by anyone. So that would be up to the Buster Douglas fight.

I don't think anybody could beat Tyson in his prime. I'm not a fan of boxing really, but I've seen alot of the classic fights and the way Tyson moves is so much different from everybody else. He was EXPLOSIVE!!!!!

He got ripped off in the Douglas fight.

I honestly don't think there was a defense for him when he was young and hungry.

I was pretty young, but I seem to remember quite a bit of controversy over that one.

I was pretty young, but I seem to remember quite a bit of controversy over that one.

What happened was, Douglas was beating Tyson easily, and Tyson got very lucky indeed with an uppercut, in the eighth round. The referee counted to nine, by which time Douglas was on his feet and ready to continue. Yet the referee's count was two seconds behind that of the official timekeeper. So, the controversy was over a long count. When Douglas knocked out Tyson in the tenth round, there was again a long count. However, Tyson's people conveniently forgot this and attempted to strip Douglas of his title due to what had happened in round eight. It didn't work out for them, though.

Tyson wasn't ripped off, and he was never unbeatable. In fact, even a talentless donkey such as Frank Bruno managed to hurt Tyson in the second round of their first fight in 1989.
