    Shocking.

I still don't know why people use iTunes. It's so prohibitive and I hate that I have to use it to manage files, pictures and music on my iPhone.
The only people we should try to get even with...
    ...are those who've helped us.

    I'm pretty sure you can...

I have a PS3 so it might be a little different, but for me to play songs off of my iPod this is what I have to do.

Plug in the iPod to the PS3, then on the PS3's on-screen menu I have to open up the folder on the iPod's harddrive that contains the music. Once you do that you can select any song you want.
It's not the greatest setup on the PS3, but it does work.

I'm almost certain you can do something similar on the 360.

    EDIT!

Actually I just re-read your thread and you are right....it can't play iTunes songs (neither can the PS3). It can play songs off the iPod, just not iTunes.

    My bad!

That's cos iPod stuff sucks! That ain't Microsofts fault. I use Transcode 360 for movies, maybe there is a music version too.

  • iTunes tracks you purchase are M4A format, which isn't really Microsoft compatible I guess. It'd be like if you wanted to play WMV files on your Mac (yeah, iTunes converts those). Either that or it's the DRM protection getting in the way.

I suggest you buy your music from somewhere that gives you MP3 files.

You have to convert your mp4 files from itunes into mp3 files. it is possible...

Not sure if this is exact... its been awhile.... but I think you burn the mp4's onto a CD through itunes, then you rip them off using windows media player and save them from there. This may give you the mp3 files you seek.

In iTunes, you can simply right-click any file and select "Create MP3 version'. This will resolve your format compatibility issues.

For those that don't like iTunes, you can't do it half assed. You either use iTunes to manage all your music or you don't. If you only using iTunes to sync with iPods and such, without properly managing your collection with it, you'll hate it. If you manage your music collection in it, it's really quite slick.

I'm not saying it's perfect, but I used to be one of those people who went around saying how awful it was. I changed my tune after spending a good amount of time with it.
