Anyone in Austin NOT going to ACL?
Been a PJ fan forever. Seen them all over the US, but could not be less excited to hear they are playing ACL. While I would love to see them less than 20 miles from my home, I have zero desire to do the whole festival thing. Standing outside all day in hot weather, with smelly people, body to body, sitting through bands I don;t know/like and paying $10 for a bottle of water, Just doesn't sound like a fun time to me.
Guess it's a little odd that I would drive 3 hrs to Dallas or Houston and have flown across the country to see them, but really have no interest in seeing them in my own backyard.
Anyone else feel this way?

There will be regional shed shows in October as well
How much of a pain is parking? How close would you really get to see them?

we always park downtown & take the free shuttles out to Zilker.

i'd think so. the single day tickets aren't on sale yet. you can also buy tix the day of the show at the venue. (at least you could for all 3 days for the last 2 years) plus, you have craigslist, etc. you should be able to get a good deal.

The thing about ACL is that even though everybody on this board who will be there is dying to see PJ there will be a ton of people there on Sunday who will leave before the headliner. It blows my mind but lots of people do. They need to get up early the next day or get out of town or whatever.
nobody asking me....whats your 10club number???
nobody giving me shit because im wearing my pearl jam shirt.....
nobody telling me how i should behave at the show.....
nobody bitching because they have been a fan club member for 10 years and now they may have to sit in the 3rd row because of the lottery.......
nobody asking me to donate money for convicted murderers...........
just a bunch of friends getting together and having a few beverages, and enjoying a day in the sun....
and to top it all off....
you get to see the best live band on the planet.......
Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
2008: MSG I, MSG II, Newark(EV)

and festival shows always tend to be unique in some way too.
from the varied setlists to fireworks...they are always a great time.
good point. usually about 4 songs in to the headliner people start leaving in mass (for dylan two years ago it took about 30 seconds).
people actually do all/any of that AT shows?! seriously?
i know it happens here, abundantly...but i chalk that up to being a message board. :P i've not once had any experience remotely like that. that would be bizarre to say the least.
that said, i am not a fan of festivals, mostly for all reasons already listed. if they were playing close to home tho, i too would probably get a one day pass, can't imagine missing out on live pj. however, given i am in NY and this show is in TX...and long overdue! (hope you get MORE dates!) i hope you ALL ENJOY!!!
Let's just breathe...
I am myself like you somehow
