STP Summer Tour?

Stone Temple Pilots have begun announcing new summer tour dates, the band's first since ending their six-month 2008 reunion tour at the end of last October. Only four shows have been unveiled so far, with the only U.S. gig in East Lansing, Michigan and the other three in Ontario, Canada. There's no word yet on further gigs. Although singer Scott Weiland told Spin magazine earlier this year that STP would issue its first new album in nine years in early 2010, it is not known whether the group has begun recording or is still in the writing stage for the project.

Weiland did tell Spin that guitarist Dean DeLeo and bassist Robert DeLeo "have already been writing the instrumental music . . . with STP, Robert, and Dean write the chords and riffs and then they bring stuff to me." Weiland added that the quartet would be "ready to record" in the spring.

The singer has his own solo shows coming up later this month as he continues to tour in support of his second solo album, Happy In Galoshes.

Meanwhile, Weiland's record label, Softdrive Records, which he co-owns with partner Doug Grean, has posted the second in a series of webisodes detailing the everyday business of an independent record company.

Newly announced Stone Temple Pilots tour dates (subject to change):
July 7 - Lansing, MI - Common Ground Music Festival
July 10 - Rama, ON - Casino Rama
July 11 - Sarnia, ON - Rogers Bayfest
July 13 - Ottawa, ON - Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest
Shows:
9/24/96 MD. 9/28/96 Randalls. 8/28-29/98 Camden. 9/8/98 NJ. 9/18/98 MD. 9/1-2/00 Camden. 9/4/00 MD. 4/28/03 Philly. 7/5-6/03 Camden. 9/30/05 AC.
10/3/05 Philly. 5/27-28/06 Camden. 6/23/06 Pitt. 6/19-20/08 Camden. 6/24/08 MSG. 8/7/08 EV Newark, NJ. 6/11-12/09 EV Philly, PA. 10/27-28-30-31/09 Philly, PA., 5/15/10 Hartford,5/17/10 Boston, 5/18/10 Newark, 5/20-21/10 MSG

Agreed....I missed the reunion tour due to a work conflict....would love to this band again.

    nice nice.
Beavis: All my friends are brown and red? What does that mean?
Butthead: It means that his friends are like turds and that they like suck.
Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!
    Butthead: Huh huh.

I just have to get this in before the haters show up. This show last year was one of the best shows I've ever seen. Sure, it was a greatest hits set, but it was simply amazing. Hopefully their new album won't be trash, but I don't think they've put out a bad album, so it shouldn't be any worse than any other early 90s rock bands that are still around.

Well I'm not going to hate on the music nor the fact that they are touring and recording again, they are one of my favorite bands. But I am going to hate on Weiland for being a loser and not showing up to the Tampa show last yr and ruining everyone's night. They said they would reschedule, but never did. I wonder if they'll have balls to hold another show in Tampa this tour.

I've got tickets to Rama, saw them last year at Edgefest and they were great.

While Weiland's voice is better than 80% of the singers out there today, his voice isn't as good as it was before the STP split in 2004. Velvet Revolver did something to him.

i'll be at the rama show. gotta get my gamble on.

i saw them last year at edgefest, and was sorely disappointed with scott weiland's voice. it steadily got worse throughout the show. when i previously saw velvet revolver, however, his voice was strong and that show remains among the best i've seen.

i'm hopeful it'll be amazing this time around. my girl couldn't make it out to see 'em last year, so she's looking forward to this one.
  • I saw STP twice in 2001, Velvet Revolver twice on the Contraband tour, and Velvet Revolver once on the Libertad tour. His voice was great at all of my shows. I think it might be hit and miss. But fuck the voice, he's an incredibly charismatic frontman. If you put Ziggy-era Bowie and Iggy Pop into one guy, you'd get Scott Weiland on the stage.

Still trying to decide about hitting Bayfest in Sarnia. It's my hometown but the festival sucks. Tickets are only $30CAD though so I may go.

I'm hitting this one......nice and cheap. I think i paid triple that in $U.S. to see them last year in Detroit.

Correction - his poor life and career decisions did something to him.

Regardless though, the man still tries.

Were Iggy and Ziggy ever neck deep in heroine addiction? This is gonna sound kinda strange, but.................... When I seen the Chili Peppers, somethin about the way Froosh moved around onstage was eerily similar to the way Weiland moved.

I gotta say, VR's music made Weiland's dancing so much cooler. He's great with STP, but VR's music is just so much more in your face.

Agreed. It would have been cool to see them change the set list a bit also. They should have played "Still Remains."
