Can anyone give me knowledge on european tours?

my best friend has wanted to go to europe for some time now, and has been saving up to go specifically for when pj toured. however, we don't really know anything about the whole touring thing in europe since we're two 20 year old noobs. i was looking at flights from jfk->rotterdam and it was crazy expensive! is there any way to go cheaper than $2200? or is that what i'm going to have to get used to looking at? and what are the chances of getting tickets that aren't nosebleed since i'm not allowed to get tickets till the 30th? what's the best plan, logistically, if we want to hit the rotterdam and to england shows and still hang around some countries (france, italy, belgium, what have you)? and are there going to be like, some vans do you think? i remember hearing stories of the 2000 tour with people putting together a van and hitting some shows, would that be possible this time around or not? if we get tickets i want this to be the best time of our young lives!!!! any help is appreciated! love you guys!
