2009 NFL Draft...

Anyone else pumped for tomorrow?

I'm a huge Giants fan but I love every part of the draft, I love watching all of the interesting stories unfold on draft day... I think some really crazy things are going to happen tomorrow... especially with Marc Sanchez's stock rising... I could see the Jets or Broncos trading up to get him if he falls far enough.

... and how bout Atlanta landing Gonzo... pretty crazy, they already had a good draft after landing him for a 2nd round pick in 2010!

Did they change the amount of time between picks? That's what I hate about the NFL draft. It takes like 6 hours to do each round. It needs to be like the NBA, you get 5 minutes and then you pick.

I don't follow it very closely, but I thought I read they went from 15 to 10 minutes this year?

Yep, only the first 2 rounds now too on Day 1.

With the 5th selection in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns select....BJ Raji, Boston College.

I don't think Stafford is going to be a bust, it's just that he's on the Lions who are notoriously and historically bad. He's got all of the intangibles to become a really good QB at the Pro level... he just needs to be coached properly and have a good line in front of him... and probably not be on the Lions...

I honestly don't know how Lions fans do it... I would be so heartbroken each year if that was my team...I'm very fortunate as a Giants fan to have one of the best GM's in the NFL... the Giants drafts the past 5 years have been some of the best in the league.

I love how the Raiders keep screwing up their team. Not sure what the Browns are doing.

I love that too about the Raiders... They keep assuring that they will continue to pick in the top ten.

Good moves by the Browns, they got a good center and stocked up on 3 2nd round picks.

And as much as I hate the Pats, they're front office is incredible... they now have four 2nd rounders and four 3rd rounders this year.

  • yeah, initially i was a little worried about the browns' moves but i think it's turned out pretty well. i love that robiskie pick, although i'm biased, i've watched him the past 3 years at osu, now we get to move on together

I caught some of the end of the draft coverage on NFL Network, they were commenting that most of his college throws were either under 10 yards or, over 20 yards ... and in the senior bowl, he had a REAL tough time completing the intermediate passes NFL QBs need to complete to drive their teams down the field.

Read: his stats were a product of the system. As has been the case for several oither Texas Tech QBs in the past.

Not only did they do that, but, they turned two 2009 third round picks into two 2010 2nd round picks (Titans and Jags).

From what I heard, this draft was really weak in top tier talent, so, trading back or, out of this draft was the thing to do.

The one thing that surprised me, they didn't go after Maualuga, the LB from USC. They had a chance at 23, traded back ... had a chance at 26, traded back ... then had a chance @ 34 (2nd round) and passed and took Chung, the safety from USC.

While Mayo looks like a great ILB for years to come, Bruschi isn't getting any younger. Really thought they'd snap him up, but, hell, In Belichick we trust.

they got 12 guys this weekend ... (but, traded Ellis Hobbs to Philly)

A lot of Ducks got drafted this year. Surprised Jeremiah Johnson didn't get drafted though.

It kills me how thre Pats trade with teams and get more picks every year. I bet they have 12 or so next year again.

Plus with the trading back they save A LOT of money. Those high-mid first round salaries are out of control.

absolutely ... $40?, 50? .. 70M???? ... with 50% of it garaunteed to a person who's never played one down of NFL football? They need to change this ... it's set up so that if you don't have a lock at the top of the draft, it is NOT worth it to make a pick up there.

Just think of all the first round bust QBs there have been ... really sets you back.

The Pats are fairly set with the starting roster in 2009, they just needed depth .... needed depth as they have a lot of free agents after 2009, so, some will walk ...

I'm still a bit worried about the linebaking group ... as I am the DBs (Springs and Bodden, neither scream "shut down corner") ... but, the Pats could be scoring 40 a game again this year, I hope.
