RED FRIDAYS
Very soon, you will see a great many people wearing Red every Friday. The reason? Americans who support our troops used to be called the 'silent majority'. We are no longer silent, and are voicing our love for God, country and home in record breaking numbers.

We need to remember everyday all of our soldiers and their families and thank God for them and their sacrifices. They need to be home!

is it possible to support the troops while simultaneously thumbing our nose at "god"?

and while we're at it, can't we support the troops while disagreeing with the war and the questionable way with which it was begun/run?

i hope they all come home tomorrow so we can hoist them up on our shoulders and give the love and respect they deserve... and give them the care and support they'll need to recover from the horrors of a war we didn't need to wage.

    God? Not so much.

I support the troops, but will never be involved with something associated with religion.

oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

Not to be a d***, but why must people constantly support the troops? It's a career people choose, and their agenda is given by the government. If you want to support the troops, people should be rallying against the government and leaders of this nation to get troops proper supplies, support, benefits and salaries. But that's just my 2 cents.

Also, if you think I'm wrong, ask yourself if people would need to support the troops if they were home in standing compared to overseas carrying out conquests not directly based on our homeland security.
    CONservative governMENt

Our government is the potent, the omnipresent teacher. For good or for ill, it teaches the whole people by its example. Crime is contagious. If the government becomes a law-breaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites every man to become a law unto himself; it invites anarchy. - Louis Brandeis

But doesn't the color red mean you are a communist? I'm confused...

Here's a novel idea... instead of being 'silent' and wearing a commie colored shirt... how about donating 10 bucks every Friday to the USO? 10 bucks is what... one lunch at Quiznos... or 2 lunches at McDonalds? That way, instead of 'Silent Support' of our troops... you would actually be DOING something to support them.

What does 'support the troops' even mean?
  • CosmoCosmo Posts: 12,225
Oh... and I forgot to ask... Which God would we be supporting? I presume it is the God that tells us to kill the people of the God that goes by another name.

    :?:

It can mean quite a few things so its confusing at times to work out what context people are applying it to.

was gonna say....I got an email like this in 05 or so?
Careful with the "we's" ;) I wish them a safe return, but that is all...not sure if that fits any of the definitions of support, but I'd hate to be confused with someone with other definitions....This is just another stupid way for people to feel better about themselves and/or their nation....Like anyone notices if you're wearing red in support, unless you tell them why...in which case they'll prob think you're a douche (not you keeponrockin).

'a yellow ribbon, instead of a swastika'

(I know quoting Rage is taboo in the poli-sci geek community, but this line is always in my head when the 'support' debate gets goin...)

This was posted in another thread...brutal, yet eloquently stated:

PS - red support shirts, huh?...between this and those overpriced Laguna Beach skull/wing/patch t-shirts, the Hell's Angels might want to start working on copyrights ;)
  • I've said it before and I'll say it again.

The only way to "support' the troops is to stop all the silly charity singles and boxes of cookies. Bring them home before any more of the die or get hurt and make sure they NEVER are homeless or lack sufficient health care and that includes mental health care. It also includes making sure they're never hungry or without a social safety net.

the best thing I ever did was talk a guy out of going with the special forces and becoming a porn model. He now lives in a huge house in Maui and works as a scuba instructor. And he's alive. Cool, eh?
