This album is brilliant.
Haven't listened to it for a while and got an urge to put it on again.
Anyone else like this album?

it's my favourite Airplane album. The problem with the band after this release was often that everyone, including Gracie, wanted to go full out and solo at once without really listening to each other. However, Surrealistic Pillow is well performed and produced, and the material's very tight without the excess that would later disrupt the music. It's the sound of the band excited by the addition of Slick and Dryden and really grooving. I think it came out just around the time of that big Be-In on Golden Gate Park, and in our popular consciousness it captures that, er, zeitgeist of early 1967.

Yes, they even lived in a big old Victorian between Haight St. and the panhandle of the Park. (I remember it was purple.) :geek:

  • You must hear the mono version if you're a fan. It has less echo and a more up-front, "in your face" sound to it. It's a lot more "rock".

Whilst on the topic, I was in a taxi with my friends on Friday night on our way to a pub and the driver had the radio going, and there was some DJ dance remix of 'Somebody to Love'.
I thought it was awful and ruined a classic.
