i just left my last meeting of the week..o yea hey by the way..we're laying off john.(one of my good friends)
i got him the job just a month ago..feel just awful
well looks like we'll be at the bar
enjoy your weekend..ours is ruined(yes i know..his more than mine)

That really sucks man. I went through a similar situation back in August. At the beginning of last year I got hired in to a company, and got my friend in there like two months later. He ended up packing everything up and moving to take the job.
Come August, we both got laid off indefinitely, along with 10 or so others. I felt like such a douche. He was cool about it and didn't hold it against me, but I know how you feel.
Hang in there. Things will get better for both of you.
