Yes, and it's good to see that they are pulling the same bullshit they did the last time by only releasing the theatrical versions of all movies on Blu-Ray. As I did with the first releases, I will be waiting for the extended editions.

    Likewise.
    90 bucks MSRP, too ;)

I already have the extended versions on DVD, but I'll probably fall for it and get them on brd anyway..

I've bought dozens of editions of these flicks too, hehe. Now I have the dvd box set that has both the extended and theatrical versions, so I can base it on my mood.

I did my senior thesis on JRR Tolkien. Though it was on the Silmarillion, not LOTR

They have a box set with both? I wonder where that was when I got mine...although I enjoy the extended versions as much or more than the theatrical versions, anyway.

It is a bit of a kicker that they don't include both on the blu ray disc. The director's cut of Payback didn't have the original, and it isn't half as good as the original...

It's actually a nifty little set. It drops some of the extras you get with the regular extended sets, but I never watch extras anyway. I prefer the extended versions, but sometimes I just don't have the time. Though I guess if you're going to invest 3 hours, what's an extra 20 minutes?

That's got to take longer than 9 hours ;) Every time I go home my brothers and I (we all love the books and the movies) talk about doing the marathon, but it's tough to find a whole day, hehe.

It may have been more than 9, we spread it out over the whole weekend. It was long enough to feel like it took all weekend.

Butthead: It means that his friends are like turds and that they like suck.
Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!

i remember I had a day to kill in Boston between the 2004 VFC warm up shows. I decided to go to the Science Museum there and went to the Lord of the Rings feature special exhibit. It was pretty outstanding.

I'll have to agree with you on this one..... and the movie execs wonder why sales are suffering. If they'd quit pulling the release it in 8 different versions game, maybe they could gain some consumer confidence. Just give people what they want from the beginning. :)

    Yep, F George Lucas.

But I agree, this multiple release stuff is BS. I'm sure it works and they make more money off of it, but it's annoying as hell for the consumer!

Definitely waiting for the extended editions on Blu-Ray. Hopefully they can fit each extended movie on one disc so you don't have to switch discs in the middle of the movie. Such a great trilogy.

The next two movies are going to be sweet. Del Toro is such an interesting director, I will be curious to see his take on The Hobbit. I am sure they will be dark as hell! Not sure about this other movie that is going to be pieced together stories, but I have faith these guys won't screw things up.

The only ones I know are Hellboy and possibly Hellboy 2...I think.

Guilermo Del Toro (not sure of spelling of the first name). He has found the most success with the Hellboy movies, but Pans Labyrinth is a much better example of his creativity. He is also a huge Tolkien fan, so I don't foresee a half ass job being done. The costume's alone should be amazing. Especially for the Trolls, Goblins, Spiders in Mirkwood, etc. I think the movies will be much scarier than the LOTR trilogy. Peter Jackson is still actively involved in the script and producing, so the movies shouldn't be a disappointment.

Ah, that IS promising then. I wonder what this other movie mentioned is... perhaps stories from the Silmarillion? That'd make for a weird movie.

I am not sure exactly. So much material to choose from. Hopefully they don't jump around all that much though. I think it might be written to be a movie connecting the time between The Hobbit and LOTR. Wouldn't mind seeing something with Aragorn, especially after it was mentioned he fought with Rohan when Theoden (spelling) was a child.
