SO here it goes.. I was up at the plate and got a single. Then i stole second standing up cause the thorw was a little off the bag and I knew I had it beat. The umpire called it safe.. but then the second basmen says "Wait a second, he has to slide right?" Then the umpire looked at me for a good three seconds.. "Sorry, rules are rules, you're out." and now im thinking to myself "is this really happening?" i proceeded to make my case with the ump and my coach came out and sent me back. on my way back the pitcher said something to the catcher under his breath about me.. i then proceeded to head towards the pitcher.. thats when both teams came flyingo out of the dugouts. i screamed "when you feel like making a REAL out and not that bullshit, PLEASE let me know!" i was held back and then asked to leave.
now, i'm suspended 2 games. im fine with it though.

that is pretty stupid...
if anything, sliding would be the dangerous way! you could get rocks/dirt/whatever embedded in your arms or legs (depending on how you slide) not to mention sliding is often a prelude to a collision.
how in the hell can sliding be safer than simply running to and stopping on the base?? lol.0 -

Because you have a better chance of running and colliding with the base men....especially if there is gonna be a close play.
With sliding you slow down and you dont really collide, sure you can get scratches on your legs if you dont know how to slide and are dumb enough to wear shorts. Picture a play at the plate with the catcher standing in front of the plate. If the runner stands up, things will get pretty violent.
Plus sprinting and then trying to come to a sudden stop while standing up, isnt exactly great for your knees either...*Official Marker in the Sand Fan Club Junkie*

haha, good points. i can see what you mean now.
however, that's still a dumb rule.0 -
I thought this was gonna be a hockey thread...sounds like a typical basebrawl to me...maybe a doggy-pile and some bitch-slapping?0

Do they let you guys keep score in this league or is everyone a winner?0

Agreed. In a softball intramural league I played they had the opposite rule I think. If you slid you are automatically out. But they also had other rules so that you couldn't run into someone either. Baseball is kind of a lame sport in my opinion. It's like watching paint dry. Going to games in the summer is fun being outside and all. But playing it and watching it on tv can get incredibly boring most of the time.
You can watch an entire baseball game, and sometimes there's only 2 minutes of actual excitement and 2 1/2 hours of nothing happening*Official Marker in the Sand Fan Club Junkie*
