Someone from the Bronx that's bitching about a member of the Red Sox? Something's laughably predictable about this post... but i can't put my finger on it.

    it's only 1 start

i wouldn't call Beckett classless at all

Yeah, for a starting pitcher, six games isn't really that big of a deal.
I didn't think the pitch near Abreu was that bad, or even the reason he got suspended. I think he got popped for running his mouth during the scrum afterward.

exactly. if he had stayed on the mound & kept his mouth shut i doubt anything would've happened, but he really did get things started because he started jawing & walking toward the plate

yeah, i really don't understand pitcher suspensions. why aren't they based on starts? you're right, 6 days is one game for him. at worst he is all cozy in his hotel room watching the game on TV, some punishment.

suspend him 2 starts but allow him to be w/ the team during the days he isn't scheduled to pitch?
  • OneTooFreeOneTooFree Posts: 265
pitchers get suspended a number of games just like position players... the fact that they might not be scheduled to pitch is irrelevant

2 starts is excessive for what happened. 1 start is good enough

I also think the appealing process is ridiculous.
If the guy who makes the decision thinks whatever happened was bad enough to warrant a suspension, why allow the player to appeal and push the punishment back weeks or even months?

but they shouldn't be held to the same standards as position players.

say if abreu took off his helmet and threw it at beckett, and got 6 games as well. that's not a fair trade off... abreu being an everyday player gets the ass end of the deal, while beckett only misses one start...?

one of my biggest gripes with the process...

i understand the need for appeals, but the MLB has representatives all over the country, do they really have to wait weeks to hear the appeal for a player? if the player appeals it should be addressed & resolved within a week

they are held to a similar standard. position players usually get 3 game suspensions while pitchers normally get 5 games
  • a suspension? really? for what running his mouth?

if he got a suspension why doesnt torri hunter get one too. christ he actually got EJECTED, unlike beckett.

hopefully we can see clay buchholz saturday night.

If a batter runs at the mound, he's tossed and suspended. Beckett could have sat at the mound and let the umps take care of things. But after he drilled Abreu in the head (classy thing to do to a team that just had a player die last week) he felt the need to run up to the plate and stir shit up rather than letting Abreu blow off stem. Fuck Beckett. He got off light for this.

he was talking to the umpire not abreu when he was walking in... he started his motion right when the umpire called time and let the pitch fly. now he meant to throw it at abreu but i doubt he meant it at his head.. he didnt even hit him. call him classless but he is fuckin good.

  • "I've never hit anybody in the head, and it's not really on my list of stuff to accomplish. But people can think what they want to think," Beckett said after Sunday's game. "I know Bobby Abreu. He knows I'm not trying to hit him in the head. Obviously, there's been a lot of emotion in this series with them -- not only facing us, but obviously the tragedy that all of them went through."

"I know Bobby Abreu. He knows I'm not trying to hit him in the head..."

I agree with Beckett's assessment. If you watch the video of it, you can tell Abreu was surprised by the pitch, but his first action was to look at the umpire. Not to charge the mound. When most guys get hit, and they feel it happened intentionally, they either start jawing at the pitcher, or take off at him right away.

Agree it was stupid to run his mouth, but I'm pretty sure Nick Adehart's death is irrelevant in this situation.

No doubt he's good, that's how I know he hit him on purpose. As to the "he was talking to the ump" excuse... that's so much bullshit and only a Red Sox apologist would even pretend to make that argument. He pegged a guy on a team that just suffered an enormous tragedy, and then started marching up to the plate talking shit to him afterwards. He's a douchebag. And he deserves his suspension. Period.
  • he didnt hit him. abreu didnt have to move much at all.

Oh, NOW you say he didn't hit him? 4 posts ago you were admitting that he did? Why don't you stop making excuses for the dude and call a spade a spade? I get so annoyed by blind fanboys like you that can't admit that their team/band/whatever is less than perfect. Beckett acted like a dipshit, and now he's paying the price.

You can look to the right and see that I'm from Boston but in all honestly I don't think Beckett did anything wrong. He's a very emotional player that doesn't take shit from anybody but that makes him classless? Someone still seems sore from the ass kickin a guy named Beckett gave the skanks in 03 :?
How's your bankroll of 425 mill for 3 players? That's pathetic.

if you are referring to me about being sore over a pitching performance that was 6 years ago, you got the wrong guy.

i think soulsinging summed up the situation nicely. dipshit move to line one up at a players head, then charge toward homeplate cursing, screaming and carrying on like a jackass. yeah, that's why he is classless. john rocker didn't take shit from anybody either, so while we are at it, lets call him a classy guy.

and wow, a boston fan bringing up the yankees payroll. you guys over it yet up there?

Who said I'm a Yankees fan? I'm not. I used to hate them more than any other team, until the Red Sox won a World Series and their fans became the biggest douches in sports.

As to Beckett, emotional is one thing. so is competitive or not taking shit or whatever. Beaning a guy in the head is something totally different, let alone charging the hitter afterwards to talk shit. And this is coming from a guy who will honestly admit he never saw anyone dominate like Beckett did when he took the Marlins past the Yankees in the series.

Nah man i'm not over it. Charging was hardly what Beckett did and he didn't hit Abreu. I really don't understand why he's a "dipshit" other than the fact that he threw a pitch high to Bobby Abreu. You're going to compare Josh Beckett to John Rocker? LOL! John Rocker's not liked because he's a god damn racist, not because he threw a pitch high and the media cried about it. There's a HUGE difference there. Holy shit dude, I'm sick of Yankees fans saying stuff about Red Sox fans that is so petty like one pitch.
I can say more about your players and I think you could agree with me. A-Rod...c'mon man...dude's a juicer that likes to hit balls out of people's hands when getting tagged out. God that guy's the definition of class. No place at all to judge because of all the crap that's happened to the Yankees franchise lately. I'm not ranting because I don't like you as a person...I'm ranting because it's a team that's in my backyard...

soulsinging nothing to say to you man. I think the whole "Red Sox Nation" is over the top but the true Sox fans that struggled for years are not douchebags. And I honestly don't think that Beckett should have been suspended for 6 games...

stale arguement, but let me explain that i was not comparing beckett to rocker. you questioned me when i said that he was classless, but you asked "why, because he doesn't take shit from anyone?"

me bringing up rocker, was just to say just because a guy doesn't take shit from anyone that does not excuse them from being classless.

whatever, it's a long season. and yeah, agree with you about a-rod, who wouldn't? but damn do we need his bat right now.
