Last Minute Airline Help Needed

My grandfather just got admitted to the ICU and is not in good shape and my mom is looking for a last minute flight to be with him in case he passes. He's 98 and we just saw him in September but from what I have heard he doesn't look in good shape. The problem is we live in Philadelphia and my mom's family is back in the Philippines.

Anyone know any websites for cheap flights for last minute flights for my mom?

Thanks in advance.

check www.kayak.com not necessarily last minute flights but lists all flights from carriers plus orbitz and expedia as well as others....

I assume flying from Philly to Manila is an expensive proposition anyways, but I imagine booking last minute the prices will be higher. Hopefully your Mom can get some sort of bereavement break on airfare.
Hope for the best for your Grandfather.
My Grandmother passed at 99 and 7 months back in 2007, we all assumed she'd make 100, hopefully your Grandfather will.

Many airlines still offer bereavement fares, but you need to contact each airline directly for their rules and regulations. In most cases there are two types of bereavement, one for the funeral itself and one for imminent death. Both require certain types of documentation to verify eligibilty, often times you pay the full fare and are compensated later, and unfortunately I doubt many airlines if any offer imminent death fares for international travel.

The "name your price" section of Priceline.com might be worth a shot. My experience is that bereavement fares are useless, as they take the discount off the "full" fare, not the online fare.

Good luck. So sorry about your grandfather. :(

Thanks for everyone's help. I'm giving my mom some of my frequent flier miles to get to LA for free and then she got a bereavement rate from Philippine Airlines to get home.

I just hope my grandpa gets better.

Not good. My mom called up Easter morning on the East Coast US which is Easter Night in the Philippines (There's a 12 hour time difference.) and everything was fine. My grandma, the remaining children and their grandchildren took him out to the park for Easter.

Then around 3:30 am our time Sunday night, my mom got woken up with a call that her father was taken to the hospital. He had stopped breathing and was in a coma. He's now on a respirator, but odds are he probably won't leave the hospital. My mom is flying out tomorrow morning and will be there Friday morning to see him ans spend some time there, but he suffered some brain damage from a possible stroke and has pneumonia. The thing is most people his age would stop fighting but he's still hanging in there and his vital signs are strong but he can't enough air without a respirator. He is really old though so his chances aren't the best. He'll be 99 in 11 days so all we can right now is just pray for him.
