Any tips, exercises for those who can't afford expensive lessons and want to learn themselves in their time?
Thanks in advance.

http://www.vocalist.org.uk/exercises.html That one looks good. google is your friend. Also, maybe try youtube.

I just try to sing along with stuff. It works good enough for my purposes. Of course I take the lead a bunch, but I've really been trying to work out backup vocals.

You're gonna have to record yourself somehow and listen back. Everybody sounds good singing along to stuff, it wasn't until I got my first four-track that I realised how awful I sounded at times. Better to pick another, safer, note than to almost make the high one.

Only thing I have is a digital camera which can record movies, the sound is okay.
Sometimes I sound okay sometimes I sound shit.
