People who do manual labor must be exhausted all the time

I spent the day scraping old wallpaper and glue off the wall and re-painting. I feel wiped out. :?

How do people do this kind of thing everyday?!

I used to do roofing and siding and was pretty much used to it.....only time it sucked was when the lift broke and we had to manually carry bundles of shingles up to the roof. now i fix computers in a climate controlled office...sometime I miss working outdoors

You get into shape after a while. Just gets easier as time goes on.

It becomes second nature after awhile and manual labor workersw appear to be in better shape for it. Atleast that appears to be the case here in Palm Beach Florida.

    exactly.
i think any *work*...manual or mental, or both....you grow accustomed. i know even when doing projects around the house or garden, first day doing so is always brutal, but if it's a big project working for a few days....even then, get accustomed and not nearly as tiring. really, it is a much better *tired* than working in an office or classroom, at least to me....b/c i think a physical exhaustion *feels* so much better than a mental exhaustion.....and far better for sleep! :)

My work is somewhat manual - I teach anywhere from 10-14 aerobic classes per week, and haul equipment, and work on learning routines, as well as running the business myself (painting, cleaning, hauling the garbage). I know on a day where I've taught 3 classes, I don't have much left when I go home and I just want to collapse and get online. Its hard to keep up with the paperwork sometimes, but the work is such that if I bring in too many others, I won't be profitable, so its a fine line to walk between how tired I get, and whether I get to pay myself.

Jane, I not surprised you're coming home exhausted sometimes! With all those classes, you must be very fit though. :)

Heh - for the most part yes. I thought of this thread today when one of my instructors flaked out, couldn't teach, so I got to teach 3 classes instead of the 2 that is normal for me. If I was a drinking person I'd be sitting comatose in front of the TV with a beer. Instead its a soy hot chocolate, but I'm still somewhat comatose. I need to go to bed and get up to do it again tomorrow.

Depending on the wallpaper ,the paste used and if the drywall was properly sealed to begin with , yeah that blows. Used to do that for a living. Loved to hang it though. Nothing like taking four blank walls and when you're finished compleatly changing the vibe of a room.

Well I've been here since December and we don't leave for DC till May. I've been working crazy hours 6 days a weeek 12 hours a day. However, I get to see the and smell the Atlantic Ocean and the intercoastal everyday. Just down the road from the Bernie Madoff house which gets a ton of action from the US Marshals closing it down.

Good to be back now for awhile as i now have the internet at the beach.

Peace and have a great day.

I framed houses for about 10 years....first, in 40 below zero in Colorado (no shit) and then in 115 degrees in Vegas. 10 hour days were usually followed with drinking until bedtime.

I occasionally "come out of retirement" and now it totally kicks my ass. Man, I was a stud back in the day!

i used to work for UPS in the shipping hub. basically loading a semi full of boxes all night. i was in the best shape of my life and i would be so worked after my shift, it effing sucked. i'd spend half my paycheck on alcohol just to help numb my pain at night. i never got used to it, so i applaud all those who do it for a living.

now i sit behind a desk and play with other peoples money.

They really should... I worked in construction for years and many of them are destroyed by the time they're in their mid 30s though with plenty of health problems :( back problems are normal... but people with a trade generally can't get any kinda other work so they keep it up... some of them are practically killing themselves. It's horrible and very very sad.
