We're happy to announce the first shows that have been confirmed for the 14th season of the NYC Rockin' the River Cruises (formerly the NYC Blues Cruise). We're sending this pre-announcement just to the Music Without Borders email list. We'll be announcing this to the public next week but until then you can purchase tickets by calling the Circle Line at 212-563-3200. We're trying our best to keep ticket prices down and by ordering your tickets through the Circle Line number, there will be NO SERVICES FEES!
Our season kicks off on Friday, June 19th with the soul/funk legend Maceo Parker and special guest Mark Rapp. Many more shows will be added soon and we'll be sending you more info on these shortly.
Each RTR Cruise is a 2 hour scenic tour and live music event in the most intimate of concert settings - our capacity is only 500 per show. Listen and watch your favorite artists while sailing past the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, the Brooklyn Bridge and the world's greatest skyline. The cruises depart from the Circle Line docks at Pier 83 at 42nd Street and the Hudson River - rain or shine. Most shows are standing room only, seating is limited and is first come, first served.

Best known for his work with James Brown in the 1960s, Maceo Parker is a funk and soul jazz saxophonist. Parker's rhythmic and rapid playing style draws on the earlier innovations of be-bopper Charlie Parker and Cannonball Adderley, mixed with Brown's own innovations in funk music.
Hailed as one of the hardest working musicians in New York City, Mark Rapp bridges the gap between modern and contemporary jazz music. In addition to being a passionate jazz trumpeter who was named one of the "top emerging jazz trumpeters" by Downbeat Magazine in 2007, Rapp performs the didgeridoo and is an accomplished composer and bandleader.

Bettye LaVette is one of the greatest soul singers in music history, possessed of an incredibly expressive voice that one moment will exude a formidable level of strength and intensity and the next will appear vulnerable, reflective, reeking of heartbreak. Bettye has performed her power-packed show around the world as well as starred in the Tony-nominated Broadway show, "Bubbling Brown Sugar" with the legendary Cab Calloway.
Ryan Shaw, a 26 year-old singer/songwriter from Decatur, Georgia, is out to revive the passion and soul of the Golden Age of Rhythm & Blues for a new generation. His debut album, This Is Ryan Shaw, combines a powerfully expressive voice with a clutch of great songs both classic and new.

Son of the great King of Zydeco, C.J. Chenier's interest in the music of his ancestors grew until he joined his father's legendary Red Hot Louisiana Band on the road. After his father's death in 1987, C.J. assumed leadership of the band and has continued to develop his own personal accordion style.

The Grammy winning singer of the Neville Brothers and Meters, and considered by many to be the last voice of New Orleans, Cyril Neville has been singing professionally since 1967. Also known as a civil and human rights activist, he has spoken out for the housing projects of New Orleans, and also founded the New Orleans Musicians Organized to help struggling musicians. Cyril's latest album Brand New Blues will be released on April 7th.
Eric Lindell has blossomed from regional cult artist to rising star with a burgeoning national fan base. His two critically acclaimed releases have won him loads of AAA and Americana radio airplay, national television exposure, and a crowded tour schedule. On Gulf Coast Highway, Eric takes his soul-drenched mix of blues and roots rock to new heights in the tradition of Van Morrison and Delbert McClinton.

Rhythm and blues master Southside Johnny first achieved prominence in the mid-1970s as the second act to emerge from the Jersey Shore music scene, following Bruce Springsteen. After many albums with his band The Asbury Jukes, Southside finally founded his own record label in 2001, and started releasing and distributing his new records fully under his own control. His latest album is a double live disc, From Southside to Tyneside.

Twenty years of The Nerds has seen sold out shows at Carnegie Hall, a July 4th performance at South Street Seaport to a crowd of over 12,000, and acting as hosts to MTV's Ultimate Cover Band Contest. They are one of the best known cover bands playing soul, classic rock, and tv themes. Their lively stage show and banter also plays a large part in their performance.

George Porter Jr., Russell Batiste Jr., and Brian Stoltz are part of the rich history that is New Orleans' musical ancestry.
