I'm taking the train from Phila and looking to stay overnight in NY and I need to know where can I stay that's close to MSG

And, relatively inexpensive, just a basic clean room.

Thanks for your help

  • Hotel Pennsylvania is going to be the closest. You can sometimes grab a good rate. Try hotels.com. Not sure what it's going for currently.

  • We are staying at the Hotel Grand Union... we got the room for $165 and it was the best we could find for a hotel with a bathroom. It is 1/2 mile away from MSG and it got a pretty good score on trip advisor. Here is the link...

  • very seriously, look into staying in New Jersey and taking a cab to and from NYC. ive done it before, its cheaper than staying IN nyc. the cab ride across the GW Bridge is like 10-15 bucks.

Do you care about sharing a bathroom? There are several nice places in the city that have shared bathrooms which are quite decent. I've stayed at The Pod Hotel over around 51st and 3rd I think, and its an easy subway ride over to the garden area; I forget which line but easy enough to look up. There's also a place that's more basic called Americana, but clean.

The New Yorker is literally a block away. I don't know about the prices, but I've stayed there. And you can see the Garden from the hotel room. It's right there, probably one of the closest places. Again, don't know about price though.

I worked on 29th street last summer, and there is also a holiday inn express which is a few blocks away.

Good tip. I've searched a few hotels on that site and it's good because you can enter that you want a hotel close to MSG in the search criteria. Generally though, there are plenty of budget friendly hotels nearby. The Pennsylvania and New Yorker are decent cheap hotels.

Fingers crossed on getting those tickets! :D

  • use hotwire.com. i used it when i went last month and ended up getting a 4 star hotel for $120/night.....which would have normally been over $300/night.

awesome site.....exactly the same as expedia, except you don't find out which hotel you're gonna be in until after you pay for it. but they do tell you what area you'll be in, what ammenities the hotel has and how many stars.

    Not from NJ it's not.
It's about 20 from where I live to MSG and I live 70 blocks sout of the GW bridge. At that point, much better to take the train from NJ
... and the will to show I will always be better than before.

last time i was there, lots of mold took over our room(s) , ( we had to switch rooms 2 different times )
lots of renovating going on ,...
    pretty cheap rates,

perhaps the proximity to MSG is more important to some,

    i'd advise against this place-

1 or 2 avenues and a street or 2 over there are many
    higher end places to stay.

after deciding i was going, then not going and now back to going again i think the best thing is just to try and get tickets before worrying about hotels just yet!

cant believe i decided to fuck it off earlier today only to tell my wife and she was the one who said "oh come on i wanted to go NY and macys"!!!! no mention of seeing PJ but give a woman a chance at shopping and i can go anywhere to watch em it seems!! :D
