that's true, I forgot that I'd have to fly to TX- hauling all that camping stuff on the plane would suck!!!! I haven't flown in quite some time- I forgot that they charge you now for extra bags. How much for a big ass tent???
If the rumors are true, I'd love to see KOL again and I've always wanted to see the Beastie Boys live

I've heard two different things here on the boards- do the 3 day passes usually sell out or will they have them up to that weekend? I know that no one knows for sure, but I'd love to hear from some of the ACL vets[/quote]
the three day passes will sell out after the lineup is announced. i'm guessing all the single day passes will sell out once the schedule comes out, which will be another month or two.
This show, another show, a show here and a show there.

whatever, Speedy. I'm sure that we're either the same age or pretty damn close- 32. And I had a blast. Trust me, if ACL had camping and it was driving distance for you, that would be the way to go.

You know last year I was thinking about renting a big house in Austin for the ACL weekend and splitting it with a bunch of people. TheLostSoul who lives in Austin said that is the way to go instead of hotels since hotels jack up their rates.
But Pearl Jam killed that idea when they bailed on ACL last year.
Maybe something to consider this year.
This is a great idea! Unless of course you have something against sharing accommodations with people you don't know
If we find out that Pearl Jam's headlining ACL, I would totally go for that!
I have no patience for bad music and stupid people...

yeah, it did!! and we're really happy with it! the guy was really cool. his partner went home sick, so i helped him load/unload.
there's a lot of other stuff to do in Austin, man. you could go to a minor league game (Round Rock Express), there are quite a few record stores & lots of things to do outside. these might help you... http://www.austin360.com/

Yeah there are some great places to eat there. I took a cavern tour when I was a kid. And if you like bats, or have never seen one, there are millions of them.

Yeah, just looking at the rental web sites it makes total sense. One of my best friends lives in Bastrop, just outside of Austin, but I know driving in and parking and all of that will be a bitch. I haven't made my mind up yet.
A) Staying in Bastrop with a friend and driving in for the show Hotel
C) House
But I am not actually doing anything until the rest of the dates are announced. Other Texas shows could be the week before or after ACL. Once the rest of the dates are announced, I will make my mind up about lodging, etc.
I am driving down from Dallas though, no planes.
But I am going to ACL regardless of when and where they play after that. Will work out the details later.
this year, i think we may stay with friends to save $ for hotels if they play other TX shows
anyway, we stayed in Round Rock the last 2 years. it's right outside of Austin & there are a ton of hotels right along I-35. it's a quick drive to downtown from there--15 minutes tops. the RR hotels weren't as crowded as the ones in Austin & they were cheaper. so it'll take about 10-15 minutes to get to your exit, and then take another 10 minutes or so to find parking. there are a ton of parking garages & they usually charge anywhere from $5-20/day depending on the location. there are some sketchy areas, so choose wisely & leave any valuable in your room. then you walk to the bus pick-up, wait in line & catch a ride to Zilker Park. the ride takes about 10 minutes or so & it's free. the best way to beat the line is to leave earlier in the day. but once you're @ Zilker, there's quite a bit to see/do/eat/etc.
also..another FYI. the busrides back to the drop-off at night can be tricky. the lines seem to be even longer. we got up front for Bjork in 2007 & the lines were ridiculous by the time we made it out of the park. we tried to hail a cab, but had no luck. so we walked. it was a LONG walk. one night in 2008 we took a cab. every other time, we stayed in line & rode the bus b/c the lines weren't that bad.

What he said. I have never been to ACL but looking on Google Earth it looks like the closest hotel is about 2 miles away.
Round Rock is an option. Stay there and drive in. Like he said, ACL runs shuttles to and from downtown Austin. Looks to be a long walk back downtown.
Confirmation by cartoon? We’ll take it. Monday afternoon, the ACL Web site posted a cartoon teaser, under the heading “2009 Lineup” of two pearls in a traffic jam. Other cartoons, hinting at B-52s, John Legend and Sonic Youth were also set to go up. But by Monday evening, the cartoons were scrapped in favor of a message that said to look for the lineup April 28.
Pearl Jam is also scheduled to also do a taping of the fest’s namesake TV show while they’re in town.
But we have to wonder what happened to the cartoon. Did this little bit of fun backfire on C3? Did Pearl Jam object to the blatant “leak”? Did they cancel? Emails have been sent to C3 booker Charles Attal and marketing director Lisa Hickey.
The band’s last appearance in Austin was in 1995 at Southpark Meadows.
Austin Music Source was the first to write that the Seattle rockers were the likely headliner, based on information from a C3 Presents insider. Other names revealed in March were Dave Matthews Band, Kings of Leon and Ghostland Observatory.
Meanwhile, Beastie Boys and Sonic Youth are both doing a tapings of “Austin City Limits” during the fest, so you can go ahead and put them on the list. Charles Attal of C3 would neither confirm nor deny those acts would be playing at Zilker Park Oct. 2- 4.
