    Despite being a lit major, I never went in much for poetry. I prefer novels. If I want impressionism, I like music with lyrics. If I had to pick though, I guess I'd opt for one of the epic poets like Homer or Virgil. Mainly because they're basically relating a novel/story in some poetic form. Or perhaps Shakespeare, if you consider his plays close enough to be poetry... they are written in verse.

    Contemporary poetry fans might want to check out Billy Collins.
    Pretty tight stuff.

    I do like the classics such as Shelley, Byron, and Keats. Contemporary... Borges - there's just something about his stuff......
