VS. RERELEASE IDEA

I think for the next rerelease, Pearl Jam should have Vs. remixed and the second CD should be them recreating the songs in a modern way. Any thoughts? :ugeek:

Why not (V) (°,,,,°) (V) ?
I'm totally opposed to them re-recording old albums. We've got 900 bootlegs of them playing the songs modern like... I don't need another disc of it done in the studio. I'd much prefer old b-sides and unreleased tracks, or a live show from the album tour. There's a shortage of the band playing live in their heyday.
horrible idea.
VS. doesn't need remixed "in a modern way." What does that even mean?
Ten needed an update. Not sure they got it right, but it was an attempt. Vs. sounds fine.
"Hey guys, we can't come up with anything good enough for a new album, so let's rerecord an old one!"
Besides, I don't want to hear Eddie attempt that note in Blood. He'd probably actually be bleeding after that.
But yeah, Vs. is good enough as it is. It's raw and youthful, and PJ now is more refined and mature. It wouldn't come off very well.

if everyone has the option to order an autographed version, then it's just becomes ink on paper, nothing special.
never quite understood the fondness of forced autgraphs.
I thought the 10 Club did away with people having two accounts when they did the merge?
Pretty much all autographs are forced autographs.
I agree. Remixing all these albums does a disservice to all of us fans that bought all the albums through the many years, to only find out we have the "lesser" versions. Ten obviously needed the remix, it's was, or sounded like it was recorded in a cave originally, and now sounds much clearer like the rest of the albums. I honestly hope the band can fight sony against reissuing all their albums. I've stuck behind the band all this time, but I might not if this happens. There is no reason, and although it is from the engine that is the sony executives, I hope the band can control their music.
yeah i was trying to be nice about it, but I've never even understood the fondness of pretty much all autographs.
I believe Pearl Jam is with Sony what comes to re-issuing the studio albums. I believe this also counts for different editions. The reason why the band is with sony on the re-issues in general is because Pearl Jam want their fans to have these albums on vinyl and also some nice concerts on vinyl and dvd.
What would be interested to hear though is who decides how the re-issues should be re-mastered.
I believe the Sony executives sit in their chairs and say: "This is the the way of today. We make these re-issues sound loud so that people on the radio can hear the loud, punchy, aggressive songs,..." :?
What I'm talking about is of course the Loudness Wars...
It's pointless to f*ck up these re-issues by mastering them too loud. The people who buy the Super Deluxe Sets of these re-issues want the CDs remastered properly and not too loud, so that they'll be victims of the (deaf magnetic) loudness war. The vinyls are good but why were the cd's ruined?
Is this a decision made by Sony, Bob Ludwig (who mastered the Ten Re-Issue) or Pearl Jam?
Someone must have been giving some guidelines to Bob Ludwig on how the cd and the vinyl were to be mastered. I doubt that he would have done it without someone telling him to master those cd's that loud.
I read that he even gave Guns N' Roses a few mastering options on their latest release. Guns N' Roses made a good choice by choosing the "full dynamics version" but unfortunately Pearl Jam or Sony? did not in the case of the Ten re-issue :( Please make this right for future re-issues or give out another edition that would be called a "Super Deluxe Vinyl Edition" what I wrote about here: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=95079.
But the vinyl records sounds fine. The cd's doesn't. Brendan O' Brien re-mixed the redux and Bob Ludwig mastered both the cd and vinyl editions of the redux. (Didn't Ludwig master the original cd and vinyl? when they were releases back in the days?) I also read that Ludwig always do different masters for cd and vinyl.
I believe this is a sony job what has been done with the cd mastering.
Well the Redux is a lot more compressed and loud than the remaster of the original mix, so one can only assume that it was O'Brien who compressed the shit out of it and asked for it to be loundend.
