i had a friend of mine tell me she is thinking of going back to school.....she is 50 YEARS OLD!!!!!

i thought to myself "thats a great fucking idea!!!!!" since she has struggled her entire life trying to "make ends meet"

    then she says to me....

"i just hope i am still able to transfer credits from some classes i took".....................

thats when i just had to shake my head.....

because im pretty sure she took a reading class and a math class at a junior college 25 years ago......

    hehehehehehehe....................

I think we all have friends/family members like that. All you can do is shake your head and laugh.

maybe you need to slap some reality into their face??

I am surrounded by the clueless!
So I'll just lie down and wait for the dream

what????????? good for her...........i do not see a problem with anyone trying to get out of a stagnant life, regardless of age.

  • I know some people like this. Don't get me wrong, we've all been in a fantasy bubble at some point in our lives but some people will never snap out of it. As it turns out, they've always been like it, I just never noticed until recently... and I was to busy focusing on those who's fantasy bubbles aren't so big...

It's sad how status and money make people think they're better than others... or how it makes people do silly things when the rest of the world is suffering financially...

I find it amazing that these people, out of all the ones I know, have the least real substance.
Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.

the first response she makes after telling me she wants to go back to school is....

"i just hope i can transfer credits from some classes i took 25 years ago"

    is she kidding????

i know for a fact she took 2 classes at a junior college 25 years ago...basic math and basic english.....and im not sure she even finished those 2 classes....

this is a girl who didnt graduate high school and ended up getting her GED.....

and now her biggest concern is transfering those 2 credits????

you dont see how that is pretty fucking silly?????

i see and understand now what you are saying.........i have been in education for many years now and nothing surprises me anymore with how a college will accomodate anybody.

living in a fantasy world is akin to pulling the covers over your head.

something we'd all like to do, but being responsible....taking care of
ourselves financially is just the way the world is structured.

and sadly, some people just don't seem to realize that simple fact.

her thinking that the credits can transfer is definitely silly, but not impossible...plus, I don't see anything wrong, or "fantasy" about goign to school @ 50 yrs old...

Perhaps she isn't going to make a career, but jsut to learn somethign new...a lot of people do that. If for some reason acquiring new knowledge while middle aged is wrong, then that sucks...I'd better stock up on knowledge now. I work with a guy that has done HVAC his entire life, and is now in school studying sociology...just because he wants to learn it and is interested.

    I'm just sayin...

    fer sure.
Normally, I slap people that start a sentence with, 'if I won the lottery'....
    but
If I won the lottery, if I was still alive after the bender, I'd go to school just for kicks.

    shit! fantasy world creepin.

I would say 99% of the people on this message board live in a fantasy world, case in point..."the porch".

I think in the broadest sense though we ALL live in the worlds we create with our minds, so one person's fantasy might be another's reality. ;)
