we celebrate the birth of Mike and mourn the death of Layne on the same day...

I always think of all the awesome music we would have, had Layne not been addicted....i never got to see him live either and knowing i never will makes me very sad...

I bigger loss than Cobain IMO.

It's one thing to like Alice more than Nirvana, or to prefer Layne's voice over Kurt's, but it's not even close whose death was a "bigger loss", as far as popular music is concerned.

Kurt also died on April 5th. Rest in peace to 'em both.

  • I had the priveledge of meeting Layne after a concert at Bogarts in Cincinnati on Dec.5, 1992. We were both wearing Ministry shirts after the show. He was tripping and drinking, but was friendly and cool as could be! Can't say the same about Jerry or Sean. I have my autographed ticket stub framed on my wall to this day!

Anyways, his addiction helped form his gripping and intense lyrics, and unfortunately shortened his life. Playing the albums dirt and jar of flies still overwhelms me with that bands passion, and Laynes vocals are 2nd to none. I sincerely cried when I heard the news of his death. Peace my brother, you are sorely missed!!!!!!

Let's see those 2013 dates in the southern states.
  • Man do I really miss Layne Staley and and the old AIC. They were my second favorite band. Jar Of Flies is absolutely one of the best albums ever IMO. I especially love I Stay Away, Nutshell, Don't Follow and of course, No Excuses :( :( :(

    "You my friend
    I will defend
And if we change, well i
    Love you anyway"

I used those lyrics for senior high school year book. Except I made the word friend plural.

I wasn't too happy when I heard about LS, but I was just shocked about KC, but not upset. Not a huge Nirvana fan.

Do you seriously have access to that show? It was insane. While in the middle of their set, AIC stopped playing and asked for any "long-haired" volunteers to come on stage and have their head shaved. Never forget that show ever! Only $13 to get in that night! Please hook me up if you can!

  • Looking for some serious opinions here. You never know what may arise in the future. PSA, the signature authentication service, quoted me $50 to verify my Layne autograph. Its on my ticket stub and I've already posted a picture of it in this thread. Is it worth it to have it done? I know its real, but in case I choose to sell years down the road when I'm a lonely old man, does that make a difference or is it really benificial that it be authenticated? Thanks for replying.

He didn't. Conveniently for grunge fans, though, he died damn close. I remember reading when he died, he had been dead for over a week, but not more than 2. I'd always like AIC, but something really clicked with me after he died.

Out of curiosity, anybody see him or pics in the couple years leading up to his death?

Also, in his last interview he said the AIC guys weren't his friends.
