Fantastic night. Jerry Seinfield had the audience roaring and killed his brief stand-up.

Ed was introduced by Laura Dern as a surfer, an activist, and her "brother in law"

Ed's set

Guaranteed
Rise
ARC
Indifference with Ben Harper

Ed comes back out for the end of Ben's set and he tells the crowd this is an experiment. They go into an AWESOME version of Queens "Under Pressure" Ed did Bowie and Ben did Mercury's part. It was so awesome that it got the first standing ovation of the night. Even the high rollers and celeb's down in front got up and clapped and stomped for what was an awesome performance.

Jim James didn't get to play his own set so that was a bummer instead he was out with Ben and Donovan for Donovans set. (I suspect he was asked to carry Donovans songs as that dude is WAY past his prime.)

Howard Stern then announces Ringo Star and whos on backing vocals as the curtain is drawn? Mr Vedder. Ringos set was

1.You know it dont come easy
2. Boy
3. Yellow Submarine (This was incredible, The whole audience on their feet doing the "Yellow Submarine, Yellow Submarine, A Yellow Submarine part.) Ringo cued up Ed for his part by singing "A YOUNG EDDIE VEDDER"

Pauls set

1. Drive my Car
2. Jet
3. Got to get you into my life
4. Lady Madonna
5. Blackbird
6. Here Today (dedicated to Lennon)
7. Band on the run
8. Cant Buy me Love
9. With a little help from my friends - WITH RINGO
10. Cosmically Conscious with Ed on Maracas and sharing a mic with Sheryl Crowe.
11. Saw Her Standing There (all star finale with all acts on stage.) Ed throws Maracas in air at the end and gives Paul a big hug. Paul thanks everyone and grabs Ed's hand and they all do the bow with Ed and Paul side by side.

So glad I was a part of it.

Sounds like an amazing show! I'm a little surprised that in such a short set Ed played Arc. Pleasantly surprised though :D

I think that Arc is a meditation to Ed, so it makes sense.

If I knew where it was I would take you there. There's much more than this
  • Just got back home myself. Amazing night. Ed looked like he was having a ball. Under Pressure was outrageous.

Just got home too and you reviewed it well...no Jim James set was the only bummer of the night, but god damn was it a great and fun show to see and basically be apart of. Yellow Submarine was the highlight for me...I was REALLY hoping for all of the performers to finish the show with Hey Jude, but it wasn't meant to be...of course, no complaints 8-)

So, this whole event is nice and all but the most exciting part for me is the fact that Vedder joined Relentless7 for "Under Pressure"!! I've seen Relentless7 twice back in December and they did Under Pressure at both shows. It fucking kicks so much ass, just them, seeing the videoclip of them doing that song with Vedder....It just made my night :) To think that how much it would kick ass if Vedder can get Relentless7 to tour with Pearl Jam for their upcoming fall gigs!?!?! Ah fuck, you don't even know!!! :D

Oh, and I was surprised that there was no "Hide Your Love Away" :D

  • Howard Stern said on his show that the benefit was being taped. Hopefully there will be a DVD or something of this event. Looks and sounds like it was fucking awesome!

  • Thanks for your tweets . . . loved following the show with you last night!

Ed sang karaoke on 'Yellow Submarine' with his Cubs Fantasy Camp buddies back in February! Got to see a clip of it on the local (Phoenix) news, then on Youtube before it was removed. :D
