Currently disabled. I have a Bachelors in Social Work. Spent my career working at shelter for homeless, abused, neglected, and at-risk youth.
Had many other jobs before getting degree, like, waitress, disc jockey, carnie worker, tanning salon manager, courier, worker at all the clubs within Fort Campbell KY., owned a printing company, thats all I can remember at moment.
Only job I didn't dread going to was the Youth Shelter.

care to share any stories about the cool stuff people throw away?

you name it, it gets tossed out... you ever want something new, look in someone elses garbage. I am not kidding either. I got a Tom Tom GPS today and it works. A few months back I got a Napa Mechanics ToolBox 4'x5' and about 300 pounds. Sold it for $500.

Lets see, we have gotten LCD Monitors, Big Screen TV's, DVD players, XBOX,Sega Genesis(still use it), PLaystation 2, Yamaha Chappy(1982), Furniture, Records, CD's, Ipods, Sirius Sat radios that people don't turn off so we can still use it till the Sub runs out.. and a whole bunch of other stuff that I could go on and on and on about.

That is wild! I love it!

People either don't care or they just start randomly throwing things out in mass clean ups.

Jeez, you are a saint. How can you hande it? I would lose it in less than a second. That's pretty cool that you are able to stomach that shit and help people out.

It is amazing to me how people wake up in the morning and jump out of bed to do normal things and by the end of the day are having the worst day of their lives. People become very self centered when they or someone they love are sick, which is something I always have to keep in my mind.

The day after I graduated from nursing school, I got the first symptoms of what I now Know is Devic's disease (my immune system is broken and is attacking my spinal cord and optic nerves). I go from patient to nurse constantly. I wear long sleeves to cover the bruises on my arms from my treatments, because I do not want the patients to think I am a drug addict or something. I am constantly around sick people and am on drugs to wipe out my immune system. My disease is kind of a sick joke or something given my chosen profession.

Thanks for calling me a saint though (a little funny cause I am an atheist). But, the answer to how I can handle it is : I handle it with a lot of humor, sarcasm and a soundtrack constantly playing in my head.
