...if i'm teaching myself through tutorials and having equallyworthless help me out with how-to's?
i have been in a certain program at my university for almost a full school year now, and of the courses for that program, i don't think i've learned a single thing. i've only breezed through on A's last semester because all the projects we did required skills i had already been taught by really awesome high school teachers... lucky for me, cos they didn't teach anything in the university courses... half the time the prof wasn't even there, we were just being taught by TA's who could hardly communicate with the class!

and now i've hit a speedbump cos we've got a project to do (given a week to do it and it's worth a hella lot of our grade) on something we've only been "taught" last class ...and its tedious! and we don't even get taught it properly! and i haven't learned this ever before... ugh!

so now i'm trying to teach myself how to do it and at the same time do the project....
i could have gotten the same result without paying $157 per credit hour to this money sucking machine.
i should just go back to being a bum and travelling.

Not that I'd encourage you to purposely fuck up in order to get you over here (by the way, is there an exchange program at your uni to London?)...

The credit points you're doing... do they carry over towards anything else, if you switch over to another program, or another uni altogether? In Aussieland it's pretty common for undergrads to switch, time and again.

I feel the same way a lot of the time, especially in one of my classes. But my tuition is $1079 per credit hour - hence I will be transferring in the fall :D

College is a gimmick. You gotta jump through their hoops, play by their rules, and suck it up to get the paycheck later. Good luck.

its like this "higher learning" bullshit... they wont teach you skills like institutions or colleges will so you can become more intuitive or something and learn things on your own...
its just a lot cheaper to learn things on my own without SFU!

Or you can be like me, jump through the hoops, play by their rules, get a diploma, and not be able to find a job where you can actually use any of the education...

    i so remember that feeling!
i DID learn a LOT in college, particularly grad school, but you most definitely are not spoon-fed, and there is a ton of self-learning. however, i do agree...sometimes that is taken too far and you think wtf am i paying for? i remember one class in particular in my undergrad years, the professor was an idiot. also at the time my father was ill, i was arranging his care, etc, etc...i missed a lot of classes. however, even missing a lot of classes i got As on all my projects, 90s and above on all quizes and tests, etc. b/c i missed a lot of classtime, i was informed my grade would be lowered....so i thought fine, i had a solid A average...i'll get a B. dickhead gave me a C! now i would've fought it, but i had him for 2 more courses the next sememster and already had a rocky patch in the first course together...so i let it go. fucker got fired over the summer, i come back....too late to contest my grade....he also took one of my scale models  and becuase of that ONE C missed out on summa cum laude and only got magna cum laude (or vice versa, never remember which is better, haha) man...i was sooooo pissed........

anyhoo, sorry for the rambling/rant....still bitter after all these years. ;) hahaha. seriously, i hope you get better profs and yes, it's an adjustment in teaching and learning between HS and college. bottomline, you get out of it what you put into it....and yes, in today's economy a college degree is ALWAYS a good idea.
    Stay with me...

the thing is, i didn't just come from high school...
i went to a different university-college before i went to my current university... and they were so much better! why i changed to a full university i dno why, i thought it was better and i didnt necessarily have a tough time getting into it so it just seemed like nothing (besides the bigger expense)... so i have something to compare it to, i guess thats why it bugs me so much!

that's pretty much it, i'm fed up with doing busy work that i've been doing since 6th grade to get a masters degree, just to get a piece of paper. That piece of paper does open up many jobs though, which many other people can't get.
Wouldn't it be funny if the world ended in 2010, with lots of fire?

you've learned NOTHING since the 6th grade?! hmmmm....sounds more like, you're not paying attention. ;) one can only actually teach someone who is OPEN to learning. while i agree there's a lot of 'busy-work' in much within education, there IS also a LOT of new learning too. even with some of the BS courses and/or professors i've had...i learned a LOT in all my educational experiences, not the least of which...thinking and disseminating information on my own, being open to other sources and opinions, being INTERESTED in others' thoughts and just seeing how wide-reaching so much of things truly is. i LOVED school. as someone else said, it IS waaayyyy better in many ways than 'real-life.' now while i wouldn't go back now, but if i could get PAID to be a student for life....ohhhhh yeeeaaaaaa........

and that piece of paper DOES open many doors.......
