What was your favorite TEN-era PJ concert?

edited April 2009 in The Porch
Mine was the Lolla 1992 at Harriet Island in Minnesota...Ed came out on Al Jorgenson's shoulders...told the crowd that Minneapolis sucked and that we could all come on the bus with them if we wanted to escape...he was mad because the hotel locked their cigarette machine at 11pm and they wanted smokes...true story...energy was amazing...he looked me right in the eyes when he sang the intro to Porch and after he said 'would ya hit me' he yelled 'would you?!' and threw his Chicago Bulls baseball cap at me and I still have that grimey hat to this day...UNWASHED

jesus... 6'11"?? i prolly couldn't even see up that high... i'm 5'9"! haha

from what i remember, it was a great show... i remember thinking ministry was great too... so cool to see them go on at dusk like that... perfect for their music. to be honest, i was a bigger ministry and soundgarden fan than a PJ fan at the time... but that soon changed!
  • Yeah, Soundgarden doing 'Cop Killer' was pretty cool......the pit for Ministry was RIDICULOUS!!!

(And by ridiculous, I mean a 300-yard 'blender' of people....in a really good way)

5/17/92, Roseland Theater, Portland OR, 2nd encore. Some idiot stage dived into an empty part of the crowd and hit the floor with a major THUD. Eddie gave us shit for not catching him, we were like, "hey man, you gotta jump where there's actual PEOPLE standing there to catch you".

Also, we got the feeling that was going to be the last time we would get to see Pearl Jam in such a small venue. We were right :(

I was after a copy of this show for three years before I found one in 1998. It was well worth the effort. One of the best sounding and best shows I've heard to this date.

My Favorite was the only one I went to in the Ten era:

09/06/93 - Portland Meadows Race Track: Portland, OR [85m]
    support act: Blind Melon
    supporting: Neil Young
set: Go, Animal, Even Flow, Alive, Blood, Once, Glorified G, Daughter/(Gimme Shelter), Deep, Jeremy, Black, State of Love and Trust, Porch/(Suck You Dry improv), Why Go, Sonic Reducer, Crazy Mary, Rockin' in the Free World
notes: A fairly long 'Gimme Shelter' is tagged after 'Daughter.' Victoria Williams joins PJ for 'Crazy Mary.' This was the first time this song was performed live at a show. PJ and Victoria join Neil Young for 'RitFW.'
    NERDS!

Sorry you missed it, although from what I recall, the version of "Angel" wasn't exactly life changing.

Earlier that year, we saw Pearl Jam/Nirvana open for the Chili Peppers at the Salem Armory. That was also an amazing show, as the pit was like nothing I had seen before (and let's face it, Nirvana and the Peppers were arguably both peaking at that point): When Nirvana opened with "Drain You", the place fucking exploded. I mean, that crowd was into it, man. To this day I have not gone to a show that compares to energy and joy of the crowd that night.

  • Yeah, I saw Nirvana in the December before Kurt offed himself in St. Paul, Minnesota

They were fucking GREAT...they exceeded my expectations

I was at this show and it was the BEST SHOW OF MY LIFE. And I've been to some pretty cool shows! I love the music of Blind Melon, PJ, and Neil Young...and having them there all together was insane. The crowd was so well behaved compared to the Gorge (we decided to drive down to Portland to due to the hell at Lollapalloza '93 at the gorge earlier in the year.) While folks were dancing & bashing & moshing a bit - they weren't trying to kill each other! The whole night was just great.

(Please note - this was a long time ago and I was not sober by any stretch of the imagination :) Memory may be flawed!) Blind Melon warmed up the show. They were touring to support their self-titled CD and were at the top of their game. PJ was great as always - and Victoria Williams was amazing - I was in love with Crazy Mary from the moment I heard it. Neil was great as always, and then when Neil & Eddie & Victoria all sang at the end...ah...words just don't do that feeling justice. It was such a great show...I wanted it to last forever. I was high for days after - even though my car wouldn't start and I had to get it towed back to Seattle :) I didn't care - that show was sooooo worth it!

Drop in the Park was pretty cool too - but the above show was better! :)

If anyone has this boot - please send me a link!!! I've been looking for so long! I'd trade other boots or a poster or something :)

    cheers; dawn

QFT. The only times I wish I was taller than 5 foot 7 is when I am at a show.
