Unexplainable sounds

I really hate unexplainable sounds in the middle of the night... You know, you're lying in bed completely awake and suddenly you hear things you really don't want to hear. And as soon as you convince yourself it's not real you hear something even more creepy and at this point know you will NEVER get to sleep.

I've lived in this house for two years and all sorts of creepy sounds emerge at the most random of times. I don't know what these sounds are or where they are from (not sure I want to find out either), but yeah, they creep me out just a little. I just tell myself there is a logical explanation for all of it (and there probably is), but it still doesn't keep my mind from wandering and freaking. It also doesn't help that I live in a 100 year old house.

Oh yeah... And I'm moving at the end of this week... To an even older house. What can I say? Those old homes are really full of character... But I hope that's all they're full of! :o

    Yeah I hate that.
Sometimes I've gotten out of bed, tip toed in the dark with a cricket bat in my hand
Once (back in 92) we were nearly burgled whilst asleep, the asshole put his muddy foot inside and was scared off by my dad going to the toilet in the middle of the night.
Scary to think what would've happened to us all if this asshole got in completely.
So yeah since then we are careful.

But most of the times its just the pipes under the house creaking.

Yeah, when I first moved here I wasn't used to the radiator sounds so a lot of the time I thought people were marching up the stairs and it spooked me quite good... But I've since grown used to those sounds and find them quite comforting now. Tonight though? When I hear things that sound like little feet running outside my door on the hard wood floor and things scratching at my wall, I tend to freak... At first I figured it was my cat, but then I remembered that my cat is currently with friends.................

Again, there WILL be a logical explanation! Still creeped though.

Here's your explanation: When the cat's away, the mice will play.
Those little f'ers can sound like elephants.
