Law School Transfer

Well, I just found out that if I want to stay in law school past my first year, I will have to transfer schools. F*@k!!! I hate to move, I love my job, and I get a scholarship at this law school that I will lose :( But, my financial aid does not cover the tuition and I'm not eligible for private loans. I am actually glad I can't get private loans, as there won't be as much debt in the end, but it sucks to have to pack up, move, and start over  Hopefully the transfer will be to Cleveland Marshall, starting in the fall. If not there, then my other options are Akron or Toledo.

I know the move will be a good thing for mickeyrat and me - better job market, hopefully, where we are going - more options anyway, with two cities close by, and lower cost of living. I guess I am just worried about finding a job - I absolutely LOVE my job now, and am more upset about leaving the job than the law school.

Other than to rant, I guess the point of this thread is also to ask if anyone knows anything about Cleveland Marshall Law School, University of Akron Law School, or Toledo Law School - I have done my research, just looking for some human input if it's out there. Also, any tips for any of those cities as far as jobs and/or housing??

i transferred to a new law school in january, so know that this can be a crazy time...

i would go to the school with the best OCI stats.

i hear about U of toledo more than cleveland state and/or akron, but i'm in the southeast.

    good luck!

Thanks! Where did you transfer to/from? Toledo concerns me because it is a very depressed area, more so than the other two, Akron has great bar passage rates, and Cleveland has the best night program. I am just going to apply and see where I end up! The school I am at now has succeeded in making me look forward to leaving, so at least I'm not hating the thought of transferring schools anymore. I am still upset about leaving my job and worried about finding another one, but it will all work out - or so I keep believing :D

Toledo is a depressed job market, but it can't be any worse than Akron. Cleveland is still limping along somehow and probably the best for jobs, but it's not like you have to get a job in the city your school is in, is it?

I think one of my fellow summer associates went to Cleveland State law, and my brother goes to UT. I never heard my coworker say anything one way or the other about CSU law, so I guess he had no problems. And he got a job, so that's a bonus. I know UToledo has fantastic bar pass rates (the best in Ohio or close to it) and is easily the highest ranked of the schools you mentioned... I think it's tier one. Not sure what that means to you though. My brother hates law school, so I can't really gauge what he thinks of the UT experience.

As to life in the cities, I grew up in Toledo. It's not a bad town, but it's nothing special. Nice zoo and museum. I'm sure housing is cheap there, though I grew up in the suburbs. It's not big enough really to have "neighborhoods", but the downtown is pretty vacant. The areas by campus are hit and miss, but there are nice neighborhoods scattered throughout the south and west sides of the city. In the end though, coming from Columbus, anywhere you go in Ohio is going to be a step down.

I spent last summer in Cleveland and will move there to start a job in the fall. I hate that city. It's such a shit hole. The city itself is essentially unlivable, with only the suburbs being decent. It doesn't even have the perks of Toledo's culture. Really the only difference between the two is that Cleveland used to be bigger so it has 3 times as many abandoned buildings. But I may be biased... I'm pretty bitter about having to move there from Chicago and had a shit living situation last summer, so my experience wasn't the best. A lot of people I know really love living in Cleveland.
