I just saw a sheet and decided it would make a GORGEOUS sundress   and, after thinking about it for a few hours, I decided a sundress is probably quite easy to make... is it? :?

And nope, I'm not that hard up for money  just thought I could FINALLY have a sundress that fits properly and looks great if I make it myself... I'm obviously deluded

ME!!!! I make a bunch of my kids clothes and I made several tee shirts for myself.
Here are some shirts I made for me, the one in the back is for my 20 year old daughter. You can kind of see my tags I had made, they say A Furry Thing and have this little guy on them.

If anyone is really bored here is a link to my album of some stuff I have made. I didn't make the little red dress, but made the leggings to match

I found a picture of my tags

Helen, I used to make clothes a lot as then I could have stuff EXACTLY as I wanted (fabric, fit, etc.). I made loads of stuff for G too. Not to mention costumes (you should have seen the 16 penguin ones I made!).

Get yourself a good pattern, decent fabric and, if it is the first time making something, follow the instructions to the letter! When you become a bit more adept at it, you can mess about or make your own patterns.

It's not difficult at all.... enjoy!

we were required to take "home economics" in junior high. I made a shirt which was way too wide and a skirt.
Made a barely passing grade. I do have a new sewing machine that I'm anxious to try out. Come over Helen and we can sew together :D

Mindi they're great... ever make anything for yourself?

Thanks redrock... I was planning on just making the sundress myself... just a back garden kinda job  it looks quite easy  :?

iluvcats I'd LOVE to come around and sew with you.. since I don't have a sewing machine  but yeh, I did home economics in school too and made skirts and I'm pretty sure dresses and it was quite simple then. Why's everything so much tougher when you're an adult?

no, it wasn't easy back then (b4 you were born.) I was a poor seamstress! I made a teddy bear pillow and a stuffed turtle. And I was a bad musician too, when we had to learn a song and perform in front of everyone in our music class, I shook so badly, no wonder I could not play.
my mom needed some curtains for her tiny windows in the mini high rise apartment building where she lives for the elderly or disabled folks. i bought some curtains online, long curtains, like 84 inches, my husband cut them and sewed them. he never had home economics, he plopped the thread in there and just did it. he made 4 curtains for her out of 2. why can't it be that easy for me? i think i'll go to old navy today and buy me some jeans and try to alter them.

Lol, awww... maybe start simpler... make a cushion cover or something :)

In home economics I mad a draught excluder that was shaped like a cat (with the tail being the draught excluder part) It was really good actually... wonder where it is now

I dunno... I think men just do stuff where as we overthink them.

I've got some scrap material to practice on and a book, "sewing for dummies."

    :)

I'm not sure I understand what you made and you wonder where it is now.

At least my turtle was cute.

Well I must go finish the laundry. This evening, we're taking my mom out to dinner b/c she has been so ill with bronchitis for a few weeks, they thought it was pneumonia. We just asked her out to dinner so she would get out of her apartment! Nothing like a steak to make one feel better, right? I'll eat salad.

well there ya go... get practicing :D

Ok, ya know if there's a draught coming from under a door... and some people put something at the bottom of the door to block it... usually round and rolled and the width of the door? Well that's what the tail of my cat was... a draught excluder with a stuffed cat on the end of it  I loved it. It's at my home place... I don't talk to my mom so just wondering if it's still there... she wouldn't throw it out though.

Ooohh well enjoy dinner tonight... show your mom a good time :)

 well ages ago I bought a dress with no intention of wearing it til somebody altered it for me... yesterday I did it myself  :D cut the sleeves off, took the top part in a bit and altered the neckline... and it turned out exactly how I'd pictured it   I'm extremely proud of myself... it did take me all day though
