Should I Open My Benny Vinyl?

edited March 2009 in The Porch
I just got a turntable in anticipation of my Ten DE. I bought a Dark Side of the Moon to go with it. I cant gather my Ten or my other Christmas Singles until Easter when I am home.

But I do have my Benny Vinyl staring at me. I have an urge to open it. The 'devaluing' of it is troubling me. I dont think I would ever sell it, and there is a slight crease near one of the corners (hardly noticable).

Open it?

Naturally open it. The value isn't in the resell, the value is in the enjoyment of hearing it. It's a good listen too.

    Dude, open it.

Are you ever going to sell it??

If no, than there's no reason not to let it spin. Like the other person said, the value is in listening to the thing.

If you've had it this long... errrr, it's tough. You've obviously kept it sealed for a reason and once you open it, there's no unopening it, you know?

I would have played it on day one, but that's me. Since you kept it for this long it obviously means something to you to have a sealed copy. You may regret it.

My grandfather had a really nice watch. ...REAALLLY nice watch. He kept it in a safe deposit box. He didn't use it. When he passed away, my father gave me the watch. I wear it all the time. Does it have a minor ding or two from me wearing it...? Sure! Has it lost resale value....? You bet! But I'm enjoying the watch. Not just thinking about it being pristine in some box in the dark.

If you're gonna sell it in the next year or so, or if you think you'll really need money soon... keep it sealed.
If you bought it to play it... play it and have a nice $20 bottle of red wine while you do. :)
ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you. :)

  • dont open it give it to me and i will spin that fucker!
    Tour with fucking NOFX
  • If you don't plan on selling it anyway, you might as well spin it! It's not worth anything if it's just collecting dust. I guess it's easy for me to say though, as I probably will never own one... unless they come out with a re-issue.

My opinion: open it. It's great to hear and who cares what it's worth if you're not going to sell it.

I guess it depends on why you own it.

Do you want to listen and enjoy it, or do you want to watch it sit on your shelf and increase in value?

**cough cough open it cough** :D

If the reason why you have a copy is for its percieved monetary value... then, well... it really deserves to be in the hands of someone who sees its real worth.

I think Im going to do it. Its obviously not a dumb thing to do based on the responses. Im going to use it for its intended purpose.
Looks like #1950 is going off the books. Thanks for the nudge everyone. I appreciate it.

I know the second I open it, they will announce a second print. :D
