UN & IMF Back Plan To Replace Dollar With SDRs as Reserve Currency

A great first step, since we already use Special Drawing Rights on what had been a diminishing basis (SDRs weren't very popular), it gives all the denialists the ability to say, "Whats wrong with that, it's nothing new."

Well, publicly declaring that you are doing it to help remove the world from a defacto dollar peg sure as fuck is new.

what's more amazing is that this is exactly what people in the "alternative press" have been predicting for years. i wonder what the public reaction would be had this stuff been covered all along by our trusty CNN's, NBC's, CBS's, etc. instead of things like octo-mom, scott peterson, and lindsay lohan..

I think it makes sense to have the IMF hold a unique world currency. The problem with holding only dollars as reserve currency is that if there is hyper-inflation in the US (or great devaluation), then the IMF holdings would he worthless.

And of course the US politicians are against that, just like they don't want oil to be denominated by anything but the dollar. The US has a great deal to lose if the dollar is no longer the base currency for the IMF and oil.
