On the intro to this half hour on CNN HN they played No More and showed a clip of the video. Sounded like there will be a segment on war songs coming up before 6pm EST.

It was just a short piece comparing protest songs of the 60s to today. When they mentioned No More, they pretty much just said it doesn't get played on the radio very much.

I might get slammed for this (and feel free to fire away), but that might be because it just isn't a very good song.

at least not to my ears.

I like the song a lot, but I really don't think it screams radio hit.

No "SLAM" whatsoever. You must be young????? I find NO MORE (WAR) to be a GREAT song. To each his/her own. I've been "slammed" myself. Didn't really enjoy it! I understand. I do however appreciate your viewpoint.

not a big fan of the tune at all really, but he is a very capable solo artist, given how good into the wild was.

CNN should focus on TV on the Radio's "Dry Drunk Emperor" if they want to hear an anti-war masterpiece of this decade. "No More" isn't in that league.

The reason protest songs don't get radio play today is because radio is pretty much a corporate bullhorn. They wouldn't play an outright antiwar song for fear that some of their advertisers would stir up shit or that their listeners would be turned off.

The Telecommunications Act of 1996 ruined radio by allowing corporations to buy as many stations as they wanted. Today, a few conglomerates own the vast majority of radio stations throughout the US. Clear Channel owns over 1200 stations and broadcasts the same crap with the same DJs from city to city. Their alt station in San Francisco is the same as their alt station in any other city. Big media is usually risk averse.

Plus, with so few stations controlling the airwaves, tstations try to drive down productions costs and drive up ad revenue. They're also less willing to take chances on songs that you might hear if you paid for XM/Sirius. Radio wasn't as corporate in the 60s, plus there were a lot of pirate stations. Also, I'm sure some of the songs that wouldn't get mainstream radio play in the 60s blew up over time. While they are classics now, they weren't necessarily radio hits back in the day.
