The girlfriend and I are going to London, Manchester and Liverpool next month.
Anyone have any recommendations on where to stay?
We want hotels that are close to train stations, cool shopping areas, restaurants, etc.
We have a room booked in London near Regents Park for a few nights, but we still need a room for the last 3 nights in London. Paddington Station area was a bit bleak last time, and Trafalgar Square was a bit too busy, so we are looking at Marble Arch or Bloomsbury this time 'round.
Is it better to stay in the Manchester City Centre, or near one of the Quays?

P.S. We are trying to average no more then GBP 120 per night.

I stayed here for 2 nights a few years ago. It's right next to piccadilly station (which is manchester's main station) and it was pretty darn cheap.
