Letting go

I remember when the walls broke down,
and light escaped through splintered cracks.

It lit the night with foreign sound
and held so strong against my back.

The moment that I realized it was too rare to maintain flight,
I prepared to land among the trees and threw my hands up toward the night.

Falling sand through glass now builds and fills the space that once held air.
Accumulating at my feet, I can’t recall what once stood there.

I remember when the gaze stared back;
I tried to run, could not defend,
only after falling down too many times to stand again.

Regret is much to hard to hold;
Too volatile to keep sustained.
I open up to feel it all and let my skin surround the pain.

If I knew where it was I would take you there. There's much more than this
