While I am all for an online media, unfortunately news paper reporters are important and often feed local TV news. In this case, the PI let just about everyone go. Not a good scene for the news world.

I'd be for it if it didn't mean the drastic job loss trend continues in the newspaper industry. Every day there's something either lay-offs, pay cuts or furloughs. If making a paper online can stop that, it would be no problem, but obviously it can't. That being said, I still would rather read the print edition of a paper any day as opposed to spending more time in front of the computer.

I'll take good local reporters over blog style on-line "reporting" any day of the week. Also, with the loss of print papers, there is a huge decline in foreign reporting agency, meaning that instead of getting a story from multiple perspectives and sources, now there is in most cases only one.... not a good recipe for fair and unbiased reporting.

I don't mind reading online in this way - a feature story from out of town - or a supplement to a print story where there wasn't room in that edition to get everything. But from the first page to the last page, I want the printed version.
